Berlin, 2nd May 2003
Jan Lammers and the Racing for Holland team face a busy week ahead as the
squad attends pre-race testing for the Le Mans 24 hour race followed by Round 2 of
the FIA Sportscar Championship at Eurospeedway Lausitz on 10th May.
The black and white Dome Judd’s will be looking to return to winning ways in the SR1
class at the German circuit after suffering some bad luck during a rain soaked first
round at Estoril in April where the No1 car of Jan Lammers and John Bosch finished
third behind the Courage Peugeot of Pescarolo Sport and the DB4A Zytek of RN
Motorsports.
Both Durango and Taurus Sports suffered in the appalling conditions of Estoril and
will be sure to push hard and display their true potential.
Spectators will be able to enjoy the cut and thrust of the two and a half hour race at
one of the most modern and best appointed motor racing circuits anywhere in the
world as the racing encompasses a mix of infield and banked circuit in a classic
Sportscar racing combination.
The Tifosi will welcome the return of the prancing horse to the championship as
Italian favourite Giovanni Lavaggi returns to the series in the legendary Ferrari 333SP
and another Italian favourite Alex Caffi along with partner Gianfranco Trombetti will be
looking to build on a promising start for the Promec PJ119.
In SR2 Sam Hignett and John Stack will relish the opportunity to get the most out of
their sweet handling and powerful Pilbeam Nissan as Team Jota try to cut the points
gap on championship leaders Lucchini Engineering. Pierguiseppe Peroni and Mirko
Savoldi, whose 2003 campaign got of to the perfect start with victory at Estoril will also
face stiff competition from a buoyant GP Racing and SCI teams. Also out for the kill
will be Pierre Bruneau and Marc Rostan whose PiR Pilbeam Peugeot suffered
overwhelming problems in the heavy rain of Portugal.
The pit lane opens to the Sportscars on the morning of Friday 9th May as first practise
gets underway.
