A 1968 Aston Martin DB6 Volante was the top lot in the Bonhams Bond Street Sale today, selling for £425,500 in the first live auction of 2021 for the UK motor car team, which had a 95 % sell-through rate.

This pinnacle of 1960s motoring, one of 140 DB6 Volantes produced, led a pack of 11 Aston Martins, representing more than 50 years of the marque, which all sold successfully, with a 1960 DB4 Series II Sports Saloon selling above its top estimate at £276,000 and a later 1981 V8 Vantage Sports Saloon achieving £129,375, double its pre-sale estimate.

The Bond Street Sale was the first for the Bonhams UK motor car team to be held as a traditional live auction this year, with a socially distanced audience in the saleroom, and was also livestreamed via bonhams.com and the Bonhams app.

Tim Schofield, Head of Department, Bonhams Motor Cars UK, said: “Today’s sale was a welcome return to the live sale format and we were pleased to witness lively bidding from the saleroom as well as from online and telephone bidders.

“The impressive 95 per cent sale rate achieved shows that there is a keen appetite for buying and selling collector’s motor cars in the capital.”

The Bonhams Motor Cars UK team are currently consigning cars for their return to Goodwood for the Festival of Speed Sale on 9 July.
