The Lloyd Hawkins Collection
Gooding & Company has the honor of presenting a curated selection of nine significant Porsches from the collection of Mr. Lloyd Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins first experienced the marvel of Porsche’s engineering excellence when he acquired a 911 T in the early 1980s. His captivation with this car, coupled with his passion for endurance racing, led him to assemble a superb collection of Porsche automobiles, with a particular focus on historic competition cars from the 1970s and 1980s. Mr. Hawkins, also a talented gentleman racer, has actively participated in both professional and historic racing series with his beloved Porsches, including SCCA, IMSA, Sebring, Laguna Seca, and Daytona.

His racing career ignited his quest to procure, restore, and campaign historic Porsche race cars for future generations to admire and enjoy. With the help of master mechanic and restorer Dennis Boada, he established Rennsport Racing with the goal of sourcing the finest competition Porsches from a bygone era. The collection quickly grew with the addition of important road and racing cars, and each of the examples presented here has benefitted from careful maintenance carried out in Mr. Hawkins’ own devoted, professional workshop. A spectacular duo of 1979 Porsche 935s from the collection of Mr. Hawkins will be presented at the upcoming auction, much to the delight of Porsche devotees and motor sports enthusiasts alike. The first 1979 Porsche 935 (Estimate: $1,700,000 – $2,000,000) is the penultimate example of just 37 customer-specification 935s built between 1977 and 1979. Finished in the iconic Interscope livery that it wore when campaigned by Interscope Racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979, this 935 comes accompanied with a second type 930/79 engine and encapsulates all that is noteworthy about German motor engineering from the late 1970s.

The second 1979 Porsche 935 (Estimate: $1,500,000 – $1,800,000) is an unusually correct example and one of only seven built for 1979. Delivered new to and raced by famed collector Otis Chandler, it presents in his Vintage Racing team’s original blue livery. With a well-documented provenance consisting of just four owners from new, this Porsche 935 will serve its new owner as a ticket to countless historic events, from the Le Mans Classic to Rennsport Reunion. Another highlight from the Lloyd Hawkins Collection is a competition-proven 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR IROC (Estimate: $1,100,000 – $1,300,000). One of only 15 RSRs specially built for Roger Penske’s IROC Series, this India Red sports car is among the most desirable of all factory-built racing 911s, and has enjoyed campaigns at Daytona 24 Hours and the 12 Hours of Sebring. A beautifully restored white and blue 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR (Estimate: $800,000 – 1,200,000), one of approximately 54 factory-built 3.0 RSRs, is also offered from Mr. Hawkins’ collection, among other Porsche consignments.

The Rudy “Mr. 993” Mancinas Collection
The late Rudy Mancinas, known to many as “Mr. 993,” was a Texas-based collector with a deep passion for Porsche and BMW sports cars, and he primarily focused on limited-production, enthusiast models in rare, vibrant color schemes. Well known in Porsche circles in particular, his collection included many 993-generation 911s, which he “Rudyfied” by adding personal touches and modifications to enhance their appearances and make them more unique. Mr. Mancinas regrettably passed away in 2021, and Gooding & Company is honored to present 18 cars from his cherished collection, comprised of eight BMWs and 10 Porsches. All of the cars presented from this prized collection of German classics are offered without reserve.

Porsche offerings of note that were hand-picked by Mr. 993 himself include five wide-body 993 Carrera 2S and 4S models, as well as unique examples from the 964, 996, and 997 generations, all presented in a range of special colors. A hallmark of the collection is the low-mile 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S (Estimate: $150,000 – $200,000, Without Reserve) finished in stunning Blue Turquoise, as well as a 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 2S (Estimate: $130,000 – $160,000, Without Reserve) presented in the seldom seen Ocean Jade Metallic. Porsche aficionados will also appreciate the collection’s 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S (Estimate: $125,000 – $150,000, Without Reserve) offered in sleek Slate Grey, and the 1998 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S (Estimate: $125,000 – $150,000, Without Reserve) finished in Glacier White over a Chestnut Brown interior.

Notable BMW models from the collection include M3s from the E30, E36, E46, and E92 generations, many of which are offered in exceedingly rare colors. These include a striking 1988 BMW M3 (Estimate: $90,000 – $120,000, Without Reserve) presented in classic Alpine White, as well as a 2013 BMW M3 Lime Rock Park Edition (Estimate: $80,000 – $100,000, Without Reserve) finished in the vibrant Fire Orange. The collection also features a 2001 BMW M3 (Estimate: $70,000 – $80,000, Without Reserve) in highly desirable Laguna Seca Blue, and a 1988 BMW M3 (Estimate: $65,000 – $75,000, Without Reserve) finished in Hennarot (Henna Red) over a rare black interior – a color combination that was limitedly produced for only one year.

Potential bidders interested in learning more about the additional offerings from these two collections are strongly encouraged to contact Gooding & Company and consult with a specialist prior to the upcoming auction. Images and information on the additional Porsche and BMW offerings from the Lloyd Hawkins and Rudy “Mr. 993” Mancinas Collections are available to press upon request.
