The Ferrari 60th anniversary relay around the world arrived in Europe with the inaugural
stage starting from Sintra, near Lisbon, in Portugal on 02 April. Twenty five Ferraris
ranging from the factory reconstruction of their first model, a 125 S, through a 250 GT
“passo corto” berlinetta, a 250 GT Lusso, a 275 GTB and an Enzo, to modern examples
and the current production range, gathered in the forecourt of the National Palace in the
centre of this picturesque historic hillside town, to commence the European leg of the
tour.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t picture postcard perfect for the start of the European
leg, as leaden skies started to deposit heavy rain as the cars assembled, and continued
through most of the morning. Fortunately it ceased just before the handing over of the
baton ceremony and the passage of the cars through the tour arch. The predominantly
red snake then wound its way through the narrow cobbled streets to head for a tour
around Lisbon and then to lunch at the splendid isolated coastal Hotel e Restaurante do
Guincho near Cascais, where a F1 car greeted them in the central lobby area. From here
the relay will criss-cross Europe, before arriving in Maranello for the anniversary
celebrations between 21 – 24 June.
