Goodwood 09, April, 2008
The Goodwood Press Preview day for the annual Festival of Speed was held at Goodwood House on
Wednesday 09 April, when Lord March and his team formally announced their plans for the festival
weekend between 11 – 13 JULY 2008. Clear blue skies and warm sunshine greeted attendees upon
arrival at the imposing country house deep in rural West Sussex, ideal conditions to enjoy the
spectacular array of machinery assembled for display and demonstration runs.
Lord March announced the plans for the upcoming festival with its themes and commemorations,
whilst motor sport luminaries in attendance included Derek Bell, Jochen Mass, Sir Stirling Moss, and
Barrie “Whizzo” Williams. The main theme of the 2008 gathering will be “Hawthorn to Hamilton –
Britain’s Love Affair With World Motor Sport, which will recognise the influence and achievements of
British and British based drivers, designers, engineers and others, who have had a major influence in
Britain’s powerful role in motor sport worldwide over the years. A significant anniversary this year is the
50th Anniversary of one of Britain’s most popular and Charismatic race series – the British Touring Car
Championship (BTCC).
The always spectacular structure in front of Goodwood House will feature Land Rover, and it is
promised that it will be something really outstanding, which is unsurprising if previous structures are
anything to go by. Naturally the event will also feature all the regular popular ingredients,

the Cartier “Style et Luxe” Concours,
the Forest Rally Stage,
the Supercar Run,
Junior Festival of Speed,
and all the peripheral manufacturer displays,
vendor areas and
music stages,

to name just a few of the many activities that make up the festival weekend. The cricket pitch display this
year will be turned into a drag strip, featuring top fuel dragsters. However, this will not be just a static
display as they will be started at regular intervals and are guaranteed to quite literally “make the earth
move”.
So if motor sport on two or four wheels is your “cup of Tea”, then book your spot for what promises to be
another spectacular eclectic gathering in the grounds of Goodwood House in mid-July.
