Cernobbio, 23rd - 25th of May
Following the pre-war years the first years after the war were
dedicated to the final editions of the original Villa D´Este
Concours up to 1953. This class did not feature less than three
Ferrari and two Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS including the Villa
D´Este model along a tiny Cisitalia 202 Convertible. The Cisitalia
202 Pinin Farina Coupe is one of the few cars that is displayed in
the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art showing the importance
and the influence of this design, aside the Coupe a few Spiders
were built.

The early 1950s were the time when several coachbuilders were
working for Ferrari before Pininfarina became the choice for most
of the models. In Como three different models with three different
coachbuilders were present starting with the 195 Inter by Ghia,
the 212 Inter by Vignale and the 250 Europa by Pinin Farina. Of
particular interest and also winner of the Best in Class Award was
the 1953 Pinin Farina Show car in very elegant and unusual
two-tone colour combination and white wall tyres as original on
the Pininfarina press pictures of this era. Furthermore this car did
not feature rear side mirrors giving it a very clean and elegant
appearance. The car had a typical history in the US as it lost its
original engine to be replaced by a more powerful and especially
easier to maintain Chevrolet engine, it has been restored to
perfection since by Ferrari Classiche and was already shown in
other concours including Goodwood and Zoute. It is said to be
auctioned later this year in Monterey and without doubt it will be
seen in the future at the American Concours circuit.
Already shown on that side of the Atlantic is the 212 Inter by
Ghia. Originally delivered to Portugal it was coloured with the
schema of the Portuguese taxies with green over black. Today it
is part of an important New York Ferrari collection and as the
owner is a regular entrant at Como this beautiful example could
be admired at this year’s event.
More vintage both in design and in the way it drives is the 195
Inter by Ghia, the Turin Show Car and oldest Ferrari entry of the
weekend. Rarely seen in public it was easy to see that the car is
more intended as a regular driver by the owner than a trailer
queen as it showed some nice patina both in the blue interior and
the engine compartment.
