But before the awards for the best restored and most historic important cars will be given the owners of these
high valued cars have the opportunity to show their driving skills in some of their other cars as those
collections usually include several prancing horses.
A few regular names like Tom Price, Jim Fuchs, Chris Cox and Charles Wegner are always present with
several cars, one for each class of drum and disc brake cars as well as pre-war machinery but this year
certainly Ed & Leslie Davies topped that with no less than 7 cars in their tent including all the cars on the high
end collectors shopping list ranging from the 250 GTO, SWB, TR and California Spider to the more special
375 MM and 290 MM as well as a nice Alfa Romeo 8C Monza. As Alfa Romeo will be the featured marque at
this year’s Sunday Concours at the Mar-a-Lago club of presidential candidate Donald Trump not few of these
dark red spiders could be seen running today. Every class had a practice run in the morning and the afternoon
to prepare for tomorrows timed practice and the following races.
Unfortunately the weather forecast for tomorrow is everything but good so most likely the races have to be
done in the morning in a big rush to get things done before the track will be wet or the races might even be
delayed or cancelled as most likely none of the cars is prepared for a bad weather.
After the last practice session was done the people headed over to the nearby Jet Aviation Centre at the local
airport to celebrate the evening reception. Parked in front of the hangar the cars were not judged by a jury but
the audience have chosen by public vote. Despite strong competition with the very first Ferrari 250 Europa GT
with Vignale Coupé body at the end the 250 GT TdF of Betz & Peters took the Cup Bella Macchina at the
reception for the most beautiful car chosen by the public. After a charity auction and the donation for the local
boys & girls club the Ferrari disappeared into the night after a great first day of the event.
Tomorrow we go for the races at the Palm Beach International Raceway and the price giving at the Beach
Club at the Breakers and hopefully the weather is not as bad as predicted.
