While Sunday morning the Atlantic appropriate presented herself cleaned most of the race Ferrari kept the dirt
they collected the day before. This giving them a nice kind of “off-the-track” appearance.
Ferrari: With nearly one third of the exhibited cars being of the Italian marque it nearly forces to make a
comparison with the 70th anniversary celebration at Maranello same weekend. And organizer Peter Auto does
not have to hide in shame. Establishing a connection to „Le Mans Classic“ , one of its other events, they
showed 27 cars with Le Mans history divided in 5 classes. So they covered history from 1958 winner s/n
0728TR to a 2008 Ferrari 430 GT2. Only the very early cars you might bewail missing.
Most impressive being a row of seven 365 GTB/4 Daytona Gr. IV racers and the view of 250 GT Sperimentale
s/n 2643GT, Ferrari „Breadvan“ s/n 1819GT, a 250 GTO/62 s/n 4293GT and the very last 250 GTO/64 s/n
5575GT side by side.
But wait, there was so much more to see than just Ferraris: Another 57 cars of all era where presented in 11
classes. From chain driven racers early last century to history of electric driven cars.
From special bodied Alfa Romeo (pre- and postwar) to the works of French coachbuilder Pourtout.
From “Ecceterini” open and close to........
The Bugatti 57S: One of the big crowd puller of the day. With a stunning Atalante by Gangloff s/n 57532, a
very original works Atalante s/n 57542 and a very beautiful Cabriolet by Vanvooren s/n 57571, the class finally
was completed by one of the mystical Bugatti 57S Atlantic s/n 57374. The latter entered by Merle & Peter
Mullin from United States.
Concept Cars: Beside all these classic cars Chantilly also hosts (and judges) new Concept cars. Coming
from Citroen, Renault, McLaren, DS Automobiles and Aston Martin, each one got his own small pavilion
where it was guided by a model wearing dresses of famed French couturiers.
In the end judges had a tough job. Too tough as it seems as both prices Best-of-Show (Classic and Concept)
where divided. For the concepts winners are Renault Trezor and Citroen Cxperience.
Classic Cars where divided between Merle and Peter Mullin’s Bugatti 57S Atlantic (pre-war) and Sir Michael
Kadoorie´s 1958 Le Mans winning Ferrari 250 Testarossa.
Chantilly establishes itself as one of the top concours events in Europe, showing for the fourth year in a row a
high class selection spanning a wide field of taste and preference.
