The sale attracted interest from collectors and enthusiasts from around the world and it was ‘standing room’
only in the deconsecrated abbey which served as the Bonhams sale room.
Lot 20, the Lamborghini Veneno, was truly the highlight of the sale, with the opening bid of CHF 3 million
drawing a collective gasp from the audience. There followed nearly seven nail-biting minutes. With initially six
active bidders, it resulted in a two-way bidding battle, with the successful bidder, a private collector, buying
the coveted roadster (one of only nine), considered the ‘ultimate’ Lamborghini, for CHF 8,280,000.
Other stand-out performers from The Supercar Collection, which had a 100 per cent sale rate, included:
2014 Koenigsegg One:1 One of just six cars produced by the Swedish manufacturer, which had covered just
597 km, which realised CHF 4,600,000.
c.2015 Ferrari - LaFerrari A 1000 km example of the Formula 1 and GT-inspired model, which achieved
CHF 2,185,000.
2011 Aston Martin One-77 The 35th example of Aston Martin’s flagship carbon fibre and aluminium hypercar
produced in a limited run of 77 realised CHF 1,552,500.
c.2010 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 A 3000 km example of the French produced Veyron, named after racing driver
Pierre, achieved CHF 1,311,000.
The Supercar Collection was offered for sale without reserve by the State of Geneva, who are donating the
proceeds to charity.
However, the Bonmont Sale was not only a ‘supercar sweep’. Over 70 classic and collectors’ cars
represented an international rollcall of prestige and performance marques: Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti,
Ferrari, Koenigsegg, Lamborghini, Maserati, Mercedes-Maybach and Porsche.
Cars which performed particularly strongly included:
1963 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series III Coupé Originally delivered new to Basel, this matching numbers
example of Ferrari’s first factory-produced four-seater ‘grand tourer’ sold for CHF 508,875.
2010 Lamborghini Reventon Roadster. The Italian marque’s popularity continued today with this example,
one of just 15 produced, achieving CHF 1,955,000.
2011 Ferrari 599 SA Apert, complete with Factory Hardtop realised CHF 996,425.
1993 Porsche 911 Type 964 Turbo S 'Leichtbau' Coupé was sold for CHF 1,150,000.
James Knight, Bonhams Group Motoring Chairman, who took today’s sale, said: We’re delighted with
today’s results. Not only have we raised a considerable sum for charity, we have also established a world
record for selling a Lamborghini at auction.
"It has been a busy month for the motoring team with The Bonmont Sale being our fourth auction in as many
weeks. Today’s total contributes to this month’s impressive tally of more than £30 million.”
The next Bonhams Motor Car auction will be The Zoute Sale on 11 October 2019.
