The Pebble Beach Auctions featured an especially strong stable of offerings from the Prancing Horse marque,
led of course by the headlining, highly original 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta that achieved
$9,465,000 on Friday night. A beautiful 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB in rarely seen Verde Medio (Medium Green)
sold for $3,415,000, and the 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Series I Coupé Aerodinamico brought in
$3,167,500. A 1952 Ferrari 340 America Berlinetta with notable racing pedigree also sold well at
$3,085,000. |

Brass Era antiques dominated much of the auctions, setting several major marque records throughout Friday
and Saturday. On Friday night, Gooding & Company presented two exceptional American Brass Era offerings
from the Jerry S. Foley III Estate. The 1914 Mercer Type 35-J Raceabout, sold for $4,790,000, became
the most valuable Mercer ever sold at auction by a large margin, and the 1913 Lozier Type 72
Meadowbrook Runabout, which achieved $1,765,000, set a new marque record for Lozier. On Saturday, the
auction house sold an incredibly historic 1912 Simplex 50 HP Toy-Tonneau, offered from 111 years of
continuous single family ownership, for $4,075,000. |
Classics from the prewar era also bode well, with the beautifully restored, Castagna-bodied 1933 Alfa Romeo
8C 2300 Cabriolet commanding a handsome figure of $4,515,000. The exceptionally rare 1930 Duesenberg
Model J Dual Cowl ‘Barrelside’ Phaeton, one of just seven Barrelside Phaetons built, brought in
$2,975,000, and the 1932 Bugatti Type 49 Roadster set a new record for the Type 49 at auction when it sold
for $1,325,000. |
An electrifying pair of Lamborghini Miuras captivated much attention throughout the week, selling strongly on
the block. On Friday evening, the one-off Blu Tahiti (Tahitian Blue) 1972 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV was
sold for the first time in the US, achieving $3,580,000. During Saturday’s daytime auction, the impeccably
restored Rosso Miura (Miura Red) 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400 sold for $2,260,000, surpassing its own
auction record for a P400 set by chassis 3378 at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auctions in 2021. |
