Lienhard and Didier Theys won the Grand
Prix at Lime Rock Park with their
Doran/Lista Ferrari 333 SP. Theys
qualified 4th behind the Dyson Riley
& Scott Fords and were thus the
underdogs for the race. But they
managed to run a shrewd race and always
remained in the top five during the 2
hour 45 minute running. With only
15 minutes to go, Theys was lying in
second place 12 seconds behind the
leading Dyson Riley & Scott
Ford. He charged hard, making up
the 12 second margin in 5 laps. The
spectators were on there feet cheering
Theys in the Ferrari. He then spun
the car while negotiating slower traffic
in turn 1, but remarkably was able to
make up the time and finally passed the
leading R&S Ford on the second to
last lap. The margin of victory was
less than 1 second. It was a heroic
drive by Didier Theys. It was Fredy
Lienhard's first win in the United
States.

- Lienhard's
Team Doran stable-mate, the
Doran/Matthews Ferrari 333 SP driven by
Jim Matthews and Mauro Baldi, was
involved in a shunt early in the race and
had to retire.

Lienhard (#27 Ferrari 333 SP) "It's
hard to find the words to express this
day. This was my first victory in
the U.S. and with so many guests and
employees of (Leinhard's company) Lista
at the race, we are very happy that the
race was so close and so exciting. I knew
it was a long race, so I had to find a
way to keep the race close and give
Didier (Theys) a chance to get on the
podium. Today is a day to remember."
