57/mar - Marguerite "Carita" du Pont de
Villiers Ortiz Boden IV, Wilmington, DE, USA |
300S
p68 |
Marguerite "Carita" du Pont de Villiers Ortiz, born July
20, 1907, was a dedicated philanthropist, benefactor,
leader, and a direct descendant and member of the great
industrialist du Pont family in Wilmington, Delaware.
Carita was a colorful member of Wilmington, Delware and
Washington society as a philanthropic mainstay who also
undertook a handful of unique commercial ventures that
included founding "Kelso Stables" in the early 1960's, a
manufacturer of Formula 1 race cars. She was also a
prominent member of numerous historical societies
including the Order of the Three Crusades 1096-1192, the
National Society Americans of Royal Descent, and the
Order of the Crown of Charlemagne in the United States
of America. She is best remembered for the restoration
of significant and family-related properties such as Mt.
Harmon Plantation, an ancestral property on the Eastern
Shore of Maryland, which was later bequeathed to The
National Trust for Historic Preservation and then the
Friends of Mount Harmon. |
