A track on the slopes of Japan’s most famous, photographed and
painted volcano. The Fuji International Speedway, inaugurated in
1965, will host the sixth round of the 2023 FIA WEC. The track,
which in its current layout measures 4,563 metres and includes
16 turns, has a long prototype and endurance racing tradition.
Several triumphs feature on the Prancing Horse’s roll of honour at
the venue: among the most important of these was the 200 Miles
of Fuji with the Ferrari 512 S in 1970, and the recent ones
involving the 488 GTE at the 6 Hours, included in the FIA
WEC championship calendar. |

The third edition of the British Motor Show sponsored by cinch at

circuit, which started with the RAC International Grand Prix on 02
October 1948. This first race attracted some 100,000 spectators,
which in the post war depression was quite amazing. The race
attracted works entries from Ferrari (their cars didn’t arrive),

privately entered Maseratis, plus the Alfa Romeo Bi-Motore,
albeit running on only one engine, in a 25-car field. |

gathering once again provided a fantastic trip down memory lane,
with an abundance of varied activities and entertainment around
the venue, as well as all the races on the track. |
The Ferrari Owners’ Club Summer Garden Party & Concours
moved from its usual mid-summer date to mid-September. Not
only did it change dates but also the venue, with participants
converging on Down Hall Hotel & Spa, just north-east of Harlow,
at Hatfield Heath in Essex, for the 2023 gathering. The Manor of
Down Hall dates back to the 11th, maybe even the 10th century,
with various configurations to the manor house through the years
that followed. The current mansion dates back to 1873, and was
designed by the architect Frederick Pepys Cockerell, using at
the time the revolutionary construction method for a domestic
building, of poured and shuttered concrete. |
The third day of the Rennsport Reunion saw a hotly anticipated

Jeff Zwart, Jörg Bergmeister, and even co-grand marshal Patrick
Long, all watched and cheered on by members of the Porsche
Executive Board; Barbara Frenkel, Andreas Haffner, Dr. Michael
Steiner and Detlev von Platen. |

in the action, including pre-war examples like a brass era Berliet,
through a 1929 Cuthbert Riley Special that had raced on the
original Brooklands track during the thirties, as had a Stafford
Special in 1938, together with a Frazer Nash single-seater from
the same decade. Through the post war years examples include
a Jaguar XK120, rally cars like the Fiat 124 Abarth, the Opel
Manta 400 and MG Metro 6R4. This extended through circuit
racers like raft of Caterham Sevens, a Ferrari F355 Challenge, a
bellowing Ford Mustang GT4, together with an equally loud
NASCAR Pontiac. Then there were supercars like the Ferrari F40
and 296 GTB. |

The eight-hour race got underway at 2 pm local time with air
temperatures of almost 32 degrees Celsius and asphalt
temperatures over 40 degrees. For the Porsche Penske
Motorsport works squad, the order was thrown into disarray after
the first corner: starting from P4 on the grid, Laurens Vanthoor
had to run wide in his Porsche 963 to avoid a collision – which
initially relegated the Belgian to ninth place. As the chase
continued, a slight nudge with a GTE vehicle made it necessary
to replace the front hood at the next pit stop. |

The latest edition of the Classic Car Auction Yearbook for 2022-
2023, now sponsored by UBS, was presented by the author
Adolfo Orsi on the opening evening of the Auto e Moto d’Epoca
Show in Bologna on 26th October 2023. The book covers the
auction period from 01 September 2022 to 31 August 2023, and
as with the previous editions, the end of August cut-off date
means that the results from all the important auctions in
Monterey, California, during the August, can be incorporated.
This is because they provide the most up to date indication of
market movement and prices being achieved, prior to the book
going to print. |

Every year at the end of October, an Italian track resonates
with the sound of hundreds of Ferraris. This year, after an
edition held at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in
Imola, the Finali Mondiali Ferrari came back to the Mugello
racetrack. A record number of 488 Challenge cars (more than
100), of XX Series (56), of GT Competizioni cars (37) and of F1
Clienti (19) were part of an incredible show. A wonderful
exhibition of 40 cars celebrated Ferrari competition success,
including Le Mans victories. |
If one though that the Auto e Motod’Epoca show in Padova was
expansive, then one had to readjust one’s perception of large with
its relocation to the Fiera complex in Bologna, it was truly
massive! It encompassed no less than thirteen halls of the
complex, with four entrances, thus virtually eliminating queues at
the points of entry. The last time that I visited a show in Bologna
there were queues of traffic on the tangenziale waiting to gain
access, this time there were no queues, so by increasing the
number of entry points they had also sorted out the traffic
problems ... |

exciting ‘Ferrari Show’. |
The author, Neill Bruce, had a long-term relationship with the then
British Ferrari importer, Maranello Concessionaires Ltd. It all
started by chance in March 1971, when he was invited by a
journalist for the local Esher News to accompany them to
Maranello Concessionaires for a road test with a Dino 246 GT. He
took pictures of the car and the Sales Director asked him for
copies, which he duly supplied. |

and aristocrats fascinated by the cars’ exclusivity and the rush
of adrenalin generated by the masterpieces produced in the
‘Motor Valley’ before it had acquired the name. |

country, where conditions deteriorated into snowfall, the gathering
was well attended. |

annual pre-season Ferrari press conference in January 1962, and
