The only portion of Monterey’s Vintage Car Week that also showcases fine food
and wines, guests can savor European and California fare prepared by
renowned Chef Cal Stamenov at The Quail as they stroll through the vintage car
show. Cuisine displayed will represent the flavors of Italy, France, Germany and
Northern California, with gelato and espresso carts, fresh breads and cheeses,
salads, quiche, bouillabaisse, German sausages, desserts and much more.
Celebrated wines from Bernardus Winery, Clicquot Wines, Loosen Bros. and
English Ales Brewery will compliment the cuisine.
The evening's centerpiece will be the renowned Bonhams & Butterfields
Auction featuring jewelry and automobilia, concluding with the sale of historic
cars, which commences after The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.
A prelude to The Quail, on Tuesday, August 10 and Wednesday, August 11, will
be the traditional Quail Rally, a two-day rally of about 30 enthusiastic drivers and
their passengers along the incredibly scenic back roads of Monterey County.
Fabulous pit stop activities and feasts are promised en route. The Rally's grand
finale is the California Highway Patrol escorting the cars to Gordon McCall's
Motorworks Revival gala at the Monterey Jet Center -- one of the hottest tickets
during Vintage Car Week. The Quail Rally is designed as a charitable event,
whose motto is "good friends, good food and a good drive for a good cause."
Nestled on 850 acres in the heart of sunny Carmel Valley, the 97-room Quail
Lodge enjoyed a comprehensive makeover in 2003, bringing new luster to all
guest rooms, public areas and the spa. New facilities and amenities were
added, including a new golf clubhouse overlooking the 18-hole championship
golf course, clubhouse restaurant, Wellness Center and trails through the
remarkably beautiful environment of lakes, lush gardens and rolling hills.
