The third RM London auction, to be held just south of the River
Thames in Battersea Park, which starts at 15.00 on Wednesday
28 October. The offerings are truly eclectic, with many very rare
and desirable cars on offer, together with a broad selection of
more mainstream offerings.
One of the star attractions is the 1963 ATS 2500 GT, as this is
the first time that one of these extremely rare cars has been
offered at auction. Only eight examples were built, of which five
remain, and this car was the last in the small production series. A
further rarity on offer is a 1962 Chapparal 1 sports racing car, of
which only five were built. Another sporting star is a 1965 Shelby
427 Competition Cobra, which was run by the Chequered Flag
racing team in the UK, and won the Ilford 500 Race at Brands
Hatch in 1966, driven by Bob Bondurant and David Piper. If you
want American V8 grunt with Italian flair and a roof over your
head, then how about a Group 4 De Tomaso Pantera with period
race history.
However, the auction is not all about sports and racing cars, as
there is a fine selection of veteran cars on offer, including a 1900
Clément-Panhard and a 1902 Peugeot Type 54, whilst pre-war
offering include a spectacular 1931 Cadillac V16 Roadster by
Fleetwood, an equally impressive 1930 Isotta-Fraschini 8A
Convertible Sedan with body by Castagna, a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C
1750 GS, a quartet of Bentleys and a pair of Bugatti 57Cs. In the
post war arena Mercedes Benz are well represented, with 190
and £00 SLs, including an AMG modified example of the latter,
with modern running gear and a V8 engine coupled to a 4 speed
automatic gearbox. There is also a massive restoration project on
offer in the Mercedes camp, in the form of a very rare 600 Pullman
Landaulet, whilst at the modern end of the spectrum there are a
pair of CLK GTR road cars, one open and one closed, either of
which is a sure fire attention getter on any street anywhere. For
enthusiasts of British sports cars there is a fine 1956 AC
Aceca-Bristol Coupé, a time-warp 1950 Aston Martin DB2 team
car, which has been with the current owner for 52 years, plus a
DB5 Convertible and a DB6 Volante, whilst if Jaguar is more your
scene there are a pair of XK 150s, and a one-off Coombs E-Type,
with body re-styling by Frua.
