Palm Beach (FL), 22 January, 2011
The third day of this years Cavallino Classics saw the Concours
in the famous Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach. After a rather
modest attendance at the track days the previous days it was joy
to see so many cars entered in the concours itself. The stream of
cars coming up the driveway of the Breakers to the registration
desk did not seem to stop and when all cars were guided to their
designated spot one could see that there was not much room left
either in the upper nor in the lower lawn.
This year highlights included many 250 GT Cabriolets with no
less than 5 California Spyders, a Series 1 Cabriolet and four
Series 2 Cabriolet by Pininfarina. Among the California Spyder
where 3 rare competition LWB models with alloy body.
Among the earlier models a 212 Export Vignale (0092E) that
already won its class at last years Pebble Beach Concours and a
very beautiful 375 America in light blue were some of the people
favourites, the later was already awarded with the people´s choice
at the aviation jet center party two days ago. Further entries
included a 250 and a 375 MM and a 212 Inter Ghia Coupé still
having its original interior after all these years.
In the competition class beside the 250 GT LWB and SWBs a
275/250 P (0812) and a 196 SP (0802) plus a small 206 SP Dino
were displayed.
In the center of the upper lawn a special display of Zagato bodied
Ferraris show the original design on the 250 GT LWB and its
modern interpretation on the 575.
On the lower lawn a class with several 275s and 365 in all
variations led to the more modern cars including Enzo, F40 and
the street cars of the last 30 years. As already mentioned above
the field was packed with a large number of cars and many
visitors were present throughout the day making this years
concours again a big success. Unfortunately the weather was not
as expected for this season in the Sunshine State with the sun
out just occasionally and a cold wind in the afternoon, but at least
it was dry all the day.
We have selected a small preview to give you an impression what
was going on at the concours and a more extensive review will
follow the next days.
