Palm Beach, Sunday 22nd of January 2012
Today the 21st edition of the annual Cavallino Classic came to an
end with the final concours at the Mar-a-Lago Club. Contrary to
the concours the day before this meeting is not just open to
Ferrari but to all classic and sports cars of particular interest.

One year after the memorable gathering of the Cunninghams this
year was characterized by the British marque Aston Martin who
showcased their latest Supercar, the One-77. The early history of
the traditional company was displayed by a pre-war 2 Litre model
(the 15/98) and several DB2 and DB 2/4 including a rare Graber
bodied DB2/4. No less than 3 DB5 Convertibles were displayed
alongside a DB4 Convertible and an DB4 GT but the most
significant examples flanked the One-77: the only Ghia
Supersonic build on a DB2/4 chassis brought by Jim Patterson
and David Sydorick´s DB4 GT Zagato, one of just 19 originally
build.
Certainly a few Ferrari found their way to the private club of
Donald Trump including the Best of Show Competition Car of the
day before, the 250 GTO s/n 3943GT. As the car was displayed
at the Ferrari Classiche tent there instead of the lawn the car was
overlooked by several spectators but today it could be admired
during a thorough walkaround. It was joined by another GTO
(3445GT), a 250 TdF (1321GT), a 410 Superamerica (0715SA)
and a 250 Series II Cabriolet (2145GT).
Down at the pool three of the early Ferrari found their place
including the 166MM/53 (0314M), the tiny 212 Export Vignale
(0090E) and the patinated 340 Mexico (0024AT).
Furthermore a quartet of Bentley Continentals were parked along
the putting green.
After a glass of champagne and the voting for the public choice
the visitors headed for the ballroom for lunch and the award
ceremony. Many smiling faces could be seen coming out again
with huge silverware making a souvenir for 4 wonderful days in
sunny Florida in the beginning of the new year. At about 3 o´clock
all cars disappeared in different directions and many of their
owners will be certainly seen back again in January 2013 for the
22nd edition of the most significant Ferrari meeting.
