Upscale clientele were immediately attracted to the Superamericas. The
vehicle presented here, chassis 0717SA, has a royal history stemming from
the initial purchase by HRH Mohammad Shah Reza Pahlevi of Iran. Then,
following his divorce in 1958 from the glamorous Princess Soraya, née
Soraya Esfandiari-Bakhtiari, 0717SA remained with her, reportedly as a
parting gift. The Ferrari eventually made its way to the United States, taking
on a Ferrari concours career in the late 70s, with consecutive showings at
the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® in 1977 and 1978, when 0717SA
was awarded First in Class. Beautifully restored under its present
ownership, proceeds of the sale of this exceptional Ferrari will benefit an
important foundation that provides funds to schools and universities for
scholarships to students in need of financial aid.
The Superamerica is revered by all Ferrari enthusiasts, and the rare 410
embodies Enzo Ferrari’s dedication to exclusivity.
1965 Ferrari 500 Superfast ... Estimate $3,000,000-$3,400,000
Unveiled at the 1964 Geneva Auto Salon, the 500 Superfast was the last in
a series of ultra-exclusive Ferrari road cars, built in limited numbers for the
world’s elite. With coachwork by Pininfarina and an interior dressed in the
finest Connolly hides, one can understand why many of these vehicles have
such prominent ownership histories. Chassis 6049SF is no exception, with
initial ownership records that begin with Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, who
acquired the vehicle new in 1965.
Formerly part of the famed Bardinon collection, in 2013 the car underwent a
fastidious two-year restoration. Wayne Obry’s renowned Motion Products
Inc. (MPI) was commissioned to perform a comprehensive, show-quality
restoration that would return the car to its former splendor. No expense was
spared to ensure that 6049SF would be a serious contender on the
concours circuit. The Superfast, tastefully finished in dark blue with red
leather upholstery, is ornate in every detail, from its polished Borrani wire
wheels to the custom-made three-piece fitted luggage set.
Since its restoration by Obry, a foremost marque expert, 6049SF has been
shown selectively. The quality and accuracy of the presentation has
garnered a Ferrari Club of America Platinum Award at the Palm Beach
Cavallino Classic, as well as an invitation to the prestigious Pebble Beach
Concours d’Elegance®, where the 500 Superfast was displayed among the
Ferrari Grand Touring Class in August 2014.
