Gréoux-les-Bains 7th - 14th of June
Day 2 ... Tuesday - Les Gorges du Verdon
Again in perfect sunshine the Bugatti left Gréoux-les-Bains to the
east passing the nearby Lac d´Esparron to follow the Verdon
towards the Lac de Sainte-Croix and the Gorge du Verdon. After
the coffee break along the road the journey led upwards to the
Corniche Sublime with the lunch stop. Situated on top of the
gorge the restaurant and the road to and from the stop gave
spectacular sights over the gorge and the surrounding area.
Unfortunately during the lunch one could see the bad weather
coming towards the gorge and although impressive to see the
thunder and lightning coming from the dark clouds did not
promise any good for the afternoon. After lunch all the participants
were eager to leave to run away from the expected showers but
as the weather was faster the afternoon became very wet. What
started with torrential rain showers soon became a hailstorm
where the cars had to hide under trees and small bridges to avoid
damage. Although the rain weakened later on the rain clothes
were needed the entire afternoon, especially as the grand prix
cars lacking cycle wings led the drivers in a constant spray. But
as one could see passing them by it did not really spoil the mood
and latest in the evening at the restaurant with a good glass of
local wine the rain was just another episode to be told at home.
