Brooklands, 19 July, 2015
The title Supercar Sunday is maybe a bit of anomaly, depending
upon what one regards as a supercar. There was a distinct lack of
Bugatti Veyrons and LaFerraris, which one could say are
amongst those at the top of the supercar league, but there was
an abundance of high performance cars, although “Performance
Car Sunday” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
Despite some early morning rain, this didn’t prove to be a
deterrent to a good turnout, with a wide variety of cars descending
on the Brooklands Museum complex during the morning. They
included a large number of modern Ferraris, a wide selection of
Aston Martins and Maseratis, together with a number of Nissan
GT-Rs spanning a few generations of the model. There were also
a pair of Alfa Romeo 8Cs, a Competizione and a Spider,
Lamborghinis in the forms of Countach, Gallardo and Hurracan, a
McLaren MP4-12C, Audi R8s, Porsches, a trio of DeLoreans, a
MG Metro 6R4 rally car, plus some American Muscle in the form
of a pair of Corvettes, one classic and the other modern, a Ford
Mustang GT 500 and a Dodge Challenger, amongst those in
attendance.
The day followed the tried and tested popular format of laps of the
adjacent Mercedes-Benz World test track prior to the lunch
break, and runs up the test hill in the afternoon. The
Mercedes-Benz test drivers also provided a display on the skid
pad prior to the track runs, with controlled drifts at both high and
low speed, which entertained the crowds awaiting the test runs.
Fortunately, after the early rain, the weather remained bright and
warm for the whole day, making for an enjoyable day at the
historic venue, with all the other attractions that it has to offer.
