To finish this 25th Tour Auto, Patrick Peter and his team reserved a very long ad very special leg for last. For the first time the Tour Auto will finish with two rally stages by night in the vicinity of Cannes.

Before the final, the participants drove from Marseille to Cassis through the « Gineste » pass, then heading to the first stage held in the « Sainte-Baume » mountains. Andrew Smith in his Ford GT40 took victory ahead of Lajournade and Caron.

It was then time to go down through the « espigoulier » pass and its wonderful trees full of pink flowers (the backdrop to most of our photos from this stage), before heading into the direction of Paul Ricard circuit.

There, Andrew Smith again dominated Caron and Lajournade, as he will do again in the final night special of « Les Ferres-Roquestron ». He’s had a good journey that proves that he might be a tough competitor next year.

At the end though, Lajournade in his Jaguar E-type won his 3rd Tour Auto, the Cobras of Ludovic Caron and Shaun Lynn finishing second and third, respectively. Throughout this edition Caron and Lynn never seemed to be able to seriously challenge Lajournade, even if the competition was often close and required Lajournade to always be on top of his game.

For the “G” class, Eddy and Jean-Jacques Benezet took the victory in their Porsche 911 ST, while the “I” group was dominated by the Ferrari 308 Gr IV of Florent Jean and Philippe Talabard.

Martin Sucari in his 250 GT Berlinetta won the regularity category.

This 25th anniversary edition was thoroughly enjoyed for its wonderful itinerary, offering astonishing vistas that pictures often can’t do justice. For certain, most of the participants will return next year to see the amazing roads that Peter Auto will string together for the 26th edition of Tour Auto.
