Cernobbio, 22nd - 24th of May, 2015
Just one week after the Mille Miglia Italy saw its second major
event for classic cars with the Concorso d´Eleganza at the Villa
d´Este at the Lago di Como. What the former is for the drivers of
high profile cars of the classic era is the later within the concours
scene, both based on a prestigious historic event and very well
established as a classic interpretation over the last decades.

Few other concours feature an equal niveau both in the setting
and the cars on show and aside the major concours in the US a
Best in Show award or the public award Coppa d´Oro at the grand
hotel is still amongst the most prestigious honours a car could
get. Again in nine classes and the concept car class established
by BMW 58 cars were lined up both at the main day at the Villa
d´Este and the public day at the Villa Erba to a record crowd.
Being restricted in space mainly at the name giving venue on
Saturday the field is of a reasonable size leaving enough time to
enjoy the details of every car during the day compared to other
shows that impress with the sheer number of cars. The classes
featured both the traditional examples of the coach built era
before and after the war but just opened itself to the early 1970s
attracting design icons coming more into focus during the last
years. This can also be seen in the fact that the jury at the
Concorso d’Eleganza has always been more open to the post-war
and race car examples as candidates for the BoS compared to
the more traditional concours awards of French and Italian design
of the 1930s in the US like the last years winning Maserati 450S
in the Maserati centenary year.
