The main current themed exhibition running at the Museo Ferrari
in Maranello is titled Hypercars (L’Evoluzione Dell’Unicita/The
Evolution of Uniqueness), the name being self explanatory. It
shows the journey of Ferraris limited production, ultimate
performance through from the GTO (288) of 1984, through the
F40, F50 and Enzo, to the current LaFerrari and its track-only
evolution, the FXX-K Evo. Also included in the line-up is a styling
mannequin of the unique P80/C, constructed as part of the
company’s special projects operation. |
Gooding & Company, the auction house acclaimed for selling the
most sought-after and valuable twentieth-century European and
American motorcars, has announced an outstanding lineup of
prewar classics ahead of Gooding & Company’s annual
Scottsdale Auctions in January 2020. These legendary
automobile manufacturers provided the blueprint for the future
luxury and sports cars we enjoy today. |
Just five months before the launch of the Concorso d’Eleganza
Villa d’Este 2020, the field of the classic cars being presented on
the shores of Lake Como is beginning to take shape. The
Selecting Committee of the world’s most exclusive and traditional
heritage beauty contest for Historic Cars and Motorcycles has
accepted its first vehicle registrations and at the same time
defined another category. Endurance racing cars from the 1960s,
1970s and 1980s will also be lining up at the start of the contest
for historically significant automobiles from 22 to 24 May 2020. |
Gooding & Company, the auction house acclaimed for selling
many of the world’s most significant and valuable Ferraris, is
proud to reveal six incredibly desirable Spiders from a
distinguished private collection. This stunning assortment of
vehicles from a world-renowned automobile company make for an
exciting sale for Gooding & Company at their 13th annual
Scottsdale Auctions on January 17 & 18, 2020. |
RM Sotheby’s has announced additional featured entries for the
auction house’s 21st annual Arizona sale, set for 16-17
January at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix. The latest list of
cars is led by a fascinating 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K
Coupe, chassis no. 154143, which has remained in the same
family’s care since 1969. |
Further details about the Ferrari Roma have been revealed during
an innovative social media communication campaign.
Exemplifying the concept of the Nuova Dolce Vita, the car has
been the protagonist of a dedicated shoot in iconic locations
around Italy’s capital city where it has encountered public and
critical claim alike. |
The ‘Ferrari at 24 Heures du Mans’ exhibition, which will
celebrate seventy years of Prancing Horse victories at the 24
Hours of Le Mans, will be inaugurated on 15 January 2020 at the
Ferrari Museum in Maranello. The space will host various models
that have contributed to some of the most memorable pages in
the history of the French endurance race. |
RM Sotheby’s headline entries for the auction are led by an
elegant 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series I by Pinin
Farina, considered the quintessential open-top gentleman’s
Ferrari. Ferrari’s road cars of the 1950s and 60s were some of the
fastest and most desirable automobiles on the planet, all in an
effort to support the company’s indomitable reputation on the
track. |
From pre-war Italy is a tremendous rarity – the legendary 1932
Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Figoni Cabriolet Décapotable. This
potent and elegant convertible with one-off coachwork by
Carrosserie Joseph Figoni is one of just seven bespoke road cars
ever bodied on this model, of which only five survive. Better still,
the 8C is regarded as one of the most important – and most
desirable – collector cars ever built. Designed by engineering
legend Vittorio Jano, the formidable 8C was driven to victory after
victory by the likes of Tazio Nuvolari and Luigi Chinetti, among
many others. |
The 29th Cavallino Classic is on its way....Every January the first
major concours of the year happens in Palm Beach at the
famous Breakers Hotel attracting Ferraristi from all over the world
to the (mostly) sunny and warm winter domicile in Florida. The
event as we know it today consists not only of the main event on
Saturday but an additional multi-marque concours at the
Mar-a-Lago club as well as receptions and the track days. |
Today was the big day of the 29th Cavallino Classic with the
annual Concours at the Breakers. And what a Concours it was ...
Once again one could see that every event is very much
dependent on the weather and it became rarely clearer than
comparing last years event with today. Last year the concours
featured one of the most exciting race car displays on the upper
lawn but the constant rain on Saturday and Sunday kept most of
the visitors from the field and so one could see a lot of covered
Ferrari standing alone in the rain. |
The 29th edition of the annual Cavallino Classic came to an end
with the Classic Sports Sunday at the Mar-a-Lago Country Club.
After the two opening days on the nearby Palm Beach and the
evening receptions the multi-marque concours followed the Ferrari
concours at the Breakers on Saturday. Whereas the Breakers
Concours is a properly IAC/PFA judged event the Sunday is more
a relaxed get together with some awards then a real competition. |
Leading his collection is an exceptional example of the rare
Bugatti Type 55 Roadster. This genuine 1931 supercharged
model with stunning Jean Bugatti-designed factory coachwork
was sold new to the future Baron Rothschild. The car has been in
Edmonds’ collection for over 30 years since he acquired it at
auction and set a world record for a Bugatti at 440,000, in 1985. |
Gooding & Company, the internationally recognized auction
house, is honored to reveal the automobiles comprising the
company’s first-ever London sale, “Passion of a Lifetime,” at
Somerset House in central London on 1 April 2020. These
stunning cars hail from one of the world’s most revered private
collections and represent the culmination of decades of research,
dedication, and a meticulous commitment to bring together the
most coveted and valuable examples of European sports and
racing automobiles of the 20th century. |
Gooding & Company, the auction house acclaimed for selling
some of the world’s most significant and valuable collector cars,
continued its practice as a market leader by realizing
$35,867,560 at the company’s 13th annual two-day Scottsdale
Auctions. The famed auction house sold 123 of 138 lots for an
impressive 89% sell-through rate, with an average of $291,606 per
car sold. Additionally, eight cars sold over the $1 million mark. |
Seven magnificent vintage and historic Bugattis lead Bonhams’
‘Les Grandes Marques du Monde’ Sale at the Grand Palais,
Paris, which opens the international auction house’s European
calendar on 6 February. In pole position is one of the most
important sports models of the marque’s golden era, a 1932
Bugatti Type 55, which started life as a works entry in the 24
Hours of Le Mans driven by two of the era’s most celebrated
racing drivers, Louis Chiron and Count Guy Bouriat-Quintart. |
The annual auction sale Retromobile by Artcurial Motorcars
attracts collectors and enthusiasts from around the world with an
unrivalled selection of rare automobiles. After the sensation
caused by the 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta
which sold for nearly 17 M € / 19 M $ in the 2019 sale, the
Artcurial Motorcars team will once again present an array of
machines exceptional for their rarity, originality and provenance.
The 2020 sale will take place on Friday 7 February at the Parc
des Exposition, Parc de Versailles in Paris. |
Top sales were highlighted by several modern supercars,
including a 2018 Pagani Huayra Roadster, the 42nd of 100
built, finished in stunning Blue TriColore with exposed carbon
weave trim throughout and showing less than 200 miles, which
sold for a final $2,370,000. Additional well-sold supercars
include a low-mileage, silver metallic over bright silver 2008
Bugatti Veyron 16.4, one of 178 fixed roof coupes built to the
original specifications, at a final $1,105,000, and a Riviera Blue
2017 Ford GT, which was offered without reserve and sold for
$923,500. |
RM Sotheby’s seventh annual Paris sale, is set for 5 February
and returning to its highly popular Place Vauban location. Hosted
during the world-famous Rétromobile week, final entries for the
sale are led by a spectacular and historic Jaguar D-Type, the
seventh customer model produced. Also newly announced for the
auction in the French capital are a Lamborghini Veneno
Roadster, one of just nine made, an iconic Ferrari 365 GTS/4-A
Daytona Spider with, remarkably, less than 28,000km from new. |
The 58th edition of the Rolex 24 at Daytona was held over the
weekend of 25 – 26 January, held in fine dry conditions, after
chilly and damp weather on the Wednesday and Thursday
during the practice sessions, definitely much more amenable
than the torrential rain of the 2019 edition. It was preceded by
the 4 Hour BMW Endurance Challenge Race, part of the IMSA
Michelin Pilot Challenges Series, on the Friday afternoon,
together with the first two rounds of the Ferrari Challenge North
America Series, both evening races on the Thursday and
Friday, the first of which was the only race to be run on a wet
track. |
“Great California Spiders are always sought-after, and often incite
emotions of a sublime motoring experience,” states David
Gooding, President and Founder of Gooding & Company. “It is
always exciting for me as an enthusiast to deliver a Ferrari from
the 1950s; the most exciting and glamorous period in the
marque’s rich history. This elegant covered-headlight example is
sure to be a flagship offering in Amelia Island and is a must-have
for the serious collector.” |
RM Sotheby’s enjoyed another successful night in Paris at its
seventh annual sale during Rétromobile week. The auction
amassed over €16.5 million in sales with 75 percent of all lots
sold for the diverse range of desirable cars and automobilia
offered for sale. The packed auction room, which encouraged
enthusiastic bidding on key lots, witnessed very strong individual
results across cars from rare 1950s and ‘60s sports roadsters
through to modern hypercars. |
A magnificent 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Roadster– one of the
most important sports cars of Bugatti’s golden era - was the
star lot in the Bonhams Grand Palais Sale, selling for an
impressive €4,600,000 – the most valuable lot across all
the collectors’ motor car sales taking place in Paris this
week. Bonhams' first European auction of the year realised a
total of €20 million (€19,693,000), its best ever result in its
Grand Palais location. |
Ferrari’s 2020 challenger is called the SF1000, reflecting the fact
that, at some point this season, the Scuderia will be the first
team ever to take part in 1000 Formula 1 Grands Prix, in this the
year that the top racing category celebrates its 70th anniversary.
The SF1000, built entirely in Maranello, was launched tonight at
the Romolo Valli Municipal Theatre in the town of Reggio Emilia.
It was a gala evening that celebrated the marque’s Italian identity,
in a setting that reflected the essence of Italy in terms of the
national flag, art, architecture and music. |
Two of the main booths in the middle of the main hall are the
ones from the London dealers Gregor Fisken and Max Girardo.
Whereas Fisken is a fixed one for more than a decade the one of
Girardo is only that big for the second year after taking over the
open space that was left by JD Classics. Both of them had 14
cars on display and Fisken always brings a very colorful mix
ranging from Cricklewood Bentleys, a very rare supercharged
Squire on the pre-war side over the 1950s racers like the Jaguar
C-Type or Maserati A6 GCS, the popular 1960s GT cars like the
Ferrari 275 Competizione to more modern racers like the Audi R8
or the Ferrari 550 Maranello. |
The Rolex 24 at Daytona race meeting featured support races
for the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series, together with a
pair of Ferrari North America Ferrari Challenge races, all
preceding the main feature race at the weekend. |
An annual appointment, that of Enzo Ferrari’s birthday on 18
February, becomes yet again the occasion for a new exhibition at
the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena. “Ferrari Grand Tour, a
journey through beauty and passion” celebrates the international
vocation and boundless fame of a marque that has dominated the
world scene with unparalleled styling of its cars from the very
early days. |
As the official auction of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance,
the sale will see a diverse assortment of 145 motor cars cross
the auction podium over two days, with entries spanning the
market from pre-war classics and important grand touring cars
through to contemporary supercars and modern classics.
Leading the Classic Era offering is an extremely rare, highly
original, exquisitely finished, and mechanically prepared 1938
Bugatti Type 57 Cabriolet by D’Ieteren, chassis no. 57589,
originally delivered as a rolling chassis to Belgian coachbuilder
Albert D'Ieteren and presented to its first owner clad in an entirely
unique three-seat convertible body. |
The third annual Miami Concours took place February 14-16 in
the beautiful Miami Design District which reported record crowds
of over 20,000 in attendance, up 29% from 2019. Design District
tenants reported full shops, restaurants, galleries and bars
throughout the day despite occasional passing rain showers
which dampened the red carpet and cars on display but never
detoured the enthusiasm of attending spectators. |
Gooding & Company, the auction house revered for selling the
world’s most desirable and prized collector cars, is pleased to
reveal an outstanding array of low-mileage supercars from
Lamborghini, McLaren, RUF, Ford, Ferrari, and Porsche that will
be crossing the auction block at its 11th annual Amelia Island
Auction on March 6. These top-of-the-line, modern marvels
represent the pinnacle of design, engineering, and performance
from the automotive world’s most legendary marques. |
Olympia London is a fitting venue for a classic car show, as it
played host to the British International Motor Show in its
formative years between 1905 and 1936, apart from the First
World War years. It was the subject of a sympathetic £40
million refurbishment programme to celebrate its 125th
anniversary, which was completed in 2013. The large domed
glass roof of the Grand Hall bathes the exhibition space in
natural light, whilst the ornate balustrades just below, running
around the perimeter balcony provide a nice classic period
feeling. |
The 18th edition of the Race Retro show, now with the support
of title sponsor Reis Motorsport Insurance, was held at its
regular venue, Stoneleigh Park, the 1000 acre estate, formerly
the National Agricultural Centre, which is still home to many
agricultural associations, over the weekend of 21–23 February.
It is billed as Europe’s premier historic motorsport show, and
covers virtually every facet of this important element in
showcasing and preserving the motor sport history. |
RM Sotheby’s shifts its live South Florida auction at Palm Beach
International Raceway online in light of the global COVID-19
outbreak. "Online Only: The Palm Beach Auction", a time-based
online auction, is set to open for bidding at 11:00 am EDT on
Friday, 20 March with staggered closure on lots to begin at 11:00
am EDT on 25 March, running through 28 March. The sale will
offer more than 250 diverse collector cars, as well as a selection
of memorabilia, with entries led by a magnificent, 2017 Ferrari
LaFerrari Aperta. |
It has been a while since we last reported on an international
event, more precisely it was March with the Amelia Island
Concours. Since then a lot of events had to be cancelled or
postponed to next year due to the current situation. Many
organizers took the decision early on, others tried to get through
until the last possible moment in order to make all the efforts
worth spent over the last 12 months. Daily new cancellations
were reported making planning not only for the entrants and
organizers, but also for the visitors very difficult. And even if an
event happens these days travel restrictions might lead to a late
change in plans. |
Bonhams Motoring calendar re-starts on 30 May with a
traditional auction encompassing motorcars, motorcycles and
cherished registrations, in a revised format to reflect the current

The auctioneer will be present on the rostrum as normal, and
bids will be accepted in the following formats: online, on the
phone, or by leaving an absentee bid. All bidding will be
conducted remotely via a live stream online and in accordance
with the latest government guidelines. |

week across 10-11 June. Overall, the sale amassed
€19,246,540, making it RM Sotheby’s highest grossing online
collector car auction thus far. Headlining the results was a
stunning Limited Edition 2020 Porsche 935 ‘Martini’ which sold
for a final €1.32 million after a flurry of late bidding before the lot
closed. |
RM Sotheby’s is pleased to present The Richoz Collection; a
diverse single-owner group of eight highly-desirable road and
track cars, as well as a broad selection of spares and
memorabilia, all offered in its Online Only: Open Roads, The

open on the RM Sotheby’s website on 14 July for one week,
concluding on 21 July. Each car comprising The Richoz
Collection is offered for sale individually and will sit alongside
more than 80 fine collector cars formerly consigned. |
The Principality of Monaco is one of the most glamorous places
in the world with an important motoring heritage, hosting two
legendary races on its streets: the Monte-Carlo Rally and the
Formula 1 Grand Prix. It was a natural choice for Artcurial
Motorcars to return to Le Rocher following successful sales in
2012 (the reserves of HSH the Prince of Monaco), 2013, 2015
and 2017. |
Over the last week, life in the Principality has run to the rhythm
of sales held by Artcurial at the legendary Hotel Hermitage. |
Dedicated to the most luxurious items: Jewellery, Watches,
Hermès Summer Collection and Artcurial Motorcars, the series of
sales totalled €14,143,974 including premium, with 10 lots selling
above €100K in the prestige sales and one lot above 1M€ in the
Artcurial Motorcars sale. This result confirms Artcurial’s leading
position in the different specialities. |
The latest European auction from RM Sotheby’s—Online Only:

proprietary Online Only platform and yet again proved the
auction house’s expertise in attracting potential buyers from all
around the world to bid on the world’s rarest and most
collectable cars and in this instance, boats too. |

the world’s leading auction house of fine collector cars, as it
grossed $30,412,810 in its Online Only: SHIFT/MONTEREY
sale and established the highest price ever achieved for a car
sold in a dedicated Online Only collector car auction. The
incredible 2001 Ferrari 550 GT1 Prodrive, an icon of modern era
sports car racing, achieved $4,290,000 in a hard-fought bidding
war on the final day of the sale. |
An ultra-rare and champion racer 1959 Porsche 718 RSK
Spyder took the chequered flag at Friday’s (August 14)
Bonhams Quail Motorcar Auction, selling for $2,232,500, the
top lot in the auction house’s live and online sale hosted in its
Los Angeles saleroom. One of only 34 built, this rarity was
ordered new by noted New Jersey motorsport enthusiast,
Bernie Vihl. It was extensively campaigned by legendary
Porsche driver Bob Holbert at numerous SCCA and
international events, securing multiple wins, including the 1959
Bahamas Speed Week, where the ‘Giant Killer’ – as it was
known – stormed to first place in the debut Governors Trophy
race. |
The classic car calendar may be on hold, but Bonhams is
looking ahead to 2021 with a tempting selection of classic and
vintage racing and rally cars on offer at the forthcoming
Autoworld Autumn Sale in Brussels on Sunday 6
September. This is the first time Bonhams has held a sale at
this venue. Leading the pack is a 1928 Mercedes-Benz Model
630K Sports Tourer, estimate €600,000 – 900,000, one of the
finest sports cars of the vintage era which is eligible for the
‘most beautiful race in the world’, the Mille Miglia Storica. |

sell-through rate with eight cars realizing over £1 million. The
company also set a world auction record for the highest average
price per car at an auction at £2,432,064, |
On Sunday, 13 September 2020, in Gibel (Haute-Garonne),
Artcurial Motorcars celebrated a "white glove" result, after selling
100% of the automobiles in the André Trigano collection. The

prices achieved for several models. Conducted in a convivial

the sale was broadcast across two interconnecting rooms and via
the internet, allowing over 11,000 people to watch. An opportunity
for Artcurial to pay tribute to the 60- year old collection of a
well-respected public figure in France. |
A 2012 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport Coupé – arguably
the car which set a new benchmark for the supercar category –
was the top lot, selling for CHF 1,840,000, in The Bonmont
Sale, the first traditional live auction staged by Bonhams
European Motor Car Department since the Grand Palais sale in

A 1959 BMW 507, first owned by King Constantine II of
Greece, will grace the elegant seaside resort of
Knokke-le-Zoute as the top lot, with an estimate of €1,900,000
– 2,300,000, in the Bonhams Zoute Sale on Sunday 11
October 2020. King Constantine’s BMW 507 |
With a long waitlist already established for the newest entry in
the legendary lineup of Ferrari GT cars, the only way to get a
new Ferrari Roma is with a celebrity connection! International
pop sensation Adam Levine is known nearly as well for his
smooth vocal delivery as he is a discerning critic of upcoming
talent. Levine’s role as a judge on The Voice showed his
leadership skills over sixteen seasons; in 2013, People labeled
Levine the “Sexiest Man Alive,” and after that, Levine could
have easily cashed in his celebrity chips, filled a garage full of
supercars, and lead a life of leisure. |
Jean-Luc Lagardère asserted that within 10 years, Matra would
win the Formula 1 World Championship and the Le Mans 24
Hours, the two most prestigious titles in motor racing. Not only
would his prediction prove to be correct, but he went further by
also winning the Constructors’ World Championship. It didn’t
take long for people to start talking about Matra single seaters.
The constructor’s rise through the ranks was relentless and
Matra went on to win the famous 24-Hour race twice more, in
1973 and 1974, before Jean-Luc Lagardère decided to give up
motor racing. |

The 2020 edition of the Salon Privé Concours d’Elegance
presented by AXA, was probably the largest and lengthiest
motoring gathering in the United Kingdom since the introduction
of the various, and constantly changing, social distancing
regulations due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As with many events,
travel restrictions from a number of countries resulted in some
cancellation of entries, but despite this the organisers still put
together a broad ranging field of cars and motorcycles. |
A unique Ferrari has been seen lapping Fiorano today during a
brief yet intense shakedown. While the V12 engine note
reverberating around the track may have sounded familiar, the
car’s arresting looks are unique although guaranteed to strike a
chord with the marque’s aficionados. With its Rosso Magma
finish and sophisticated racing livery, the new Ferrari Omologata
is a clear descendent of Ferrari’s great GT tradition spanning
seven decades of history. |
The new MC20 (MC for Maserati Corse and 20 for 2020, the year
of its world première and the start of the Brand’s new Era) is the
Maserati everyone was waiting for. It is a car with incredible
aerodynamic efficiency, which conceals a sporty soul, with the
new Nettuno engine, a 621 horsepower V6 with torque of 730 Nm
(538 lb-ft) that delivers 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 2,9
seconds (0 – 60 miles in under 2.9 seconds) and a top speed
over 325 km an hour (202 miles per hour). An engine that signals
Maserati’s return to producing its own power units after a hiatus
of more than 20 years. |

All or nothing....Usually the Goodwood main events, namely the
Festival of Speed at Goodwood House and the Revival on the
racing circuit, are known to be the biggest crowd pullers of the
entire classic car season with well over 150000 visitors attending.
Numbers that seem to be from a different era when looking at the
events in the times of Covid-19. This year most of the events had
to be cancelled, be it concours events or trade shows whereas
some race meetings happened with exclusion of the public. |

car scene, that they wouldn’t normally have the opportunity of

93 years ago the first of the original thousand miles through Italy
was held and within the 30 years of existence the endurance race
on open roads became an institution in the sports car
championship contrasting circuit racing as the Nuerburgring or
Spa 1000 km. Maybe the older Targa Florio had a similar
character with its 148 km lap but it was the MM that created
legends like Nuvolari, Caracciola or Stirling Moss, the last of
the winners that left us earlier this year. |
