Which cars have sold in 2018 and for what price ... and which haven't ? |
Competitors come and go, but Scuderia Ferrari still sets the
standard for greatness in Formula One. Since the first Formula
One race took place in 1951, Scuderia Ferrari is the only team to
have always competed in the world championship. |
Ferrari and Formula 1, few terms are linked more than the famous
Scuderia and the top category of open wheel racing. Although
now waiting for more than a decade to bring back a title to
Maranello the Scuderia Ferrari is still the most successful team
in the History of F1 and Ferrari is the only team to run every
season since the series was introduced in 1950. Being the team
principle of the Scuderia Ferrari that ran the works entries for Alfa
Romeo in the 1930s Enzo Ferrari early on saw the importance of
the GP series aside the sports car world championship to
position his marque as the leading sport car manufacturer that it
should become over the next decades. |
This past Saturday, 8 December, RM Sotheby’s achieved $39.8
million in total sales at the company’s final auction of 2018 at the
renowned Petersen Automotive Museum. Leading the group of 64
vehicles and 77 lots of memorabilia representing a cross-section
of significant eras and 10 categories in collector car history ... of
which 88 percent found new homes ... was the remarkably rare
1956 Ferrari 290 MM, which sold for $22,005,000, entering the
ranks of the top ten most valuable motor cars ever sold at auction |
2018 proved to be an outstanding year for RM Sotheby’s despite
the subdued conditions in the collector car market,” says
Kenneth Ahn, President, RM Sotheby’s. “RM Sotheby’s
maintained market leadership as the largest collector car auction
house by total sales and saw strong activity in the high end of the
market, as we sold 68 collector cars for over $1 million each, for
a combined value of more than $222 million (approx. 52 percent
of our total sales); we also maintained our position as number
one auction house in $1 million+ cars by both total sales and the
number of cars sold. |
Bonhams final motor car sales of the 2018 were held in London at
the beginning of December and realised £8.5M. The results
brought a satisfying conclusion to a record-breaking year.
Bonhams has held 18 motor car sales and five motorcycle sales
this year in no fewer than six countries. World auction records
were achieved for both marques and models throughout the year. |
Eight stunning ‘Best of Show’ winners from top concours around
the world have been revealed as nominees for the coveted The
Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award. The cars in
contention for the 2018 award will now be carefully reviewed by 26
respected judges, all of whom are leaders in their fields of
expertise. |
The Ferrari Museum is dedicating a special exhibition to Michael
Schumacher, which will open on the occasion of his 50th birthday
on 3 January 2019. It is intended both as a celebration and a
mark of gratitude to the most successful Prancing Horse driver
ever. Schumacher has a special place in Ferrari’s history, which
has been marked by his many records. Between 1996 and 2006
the German champion won five consecutive Drivers’ titles, from
2000 to 2004, and made a major contribution to the Scuderia’s
haul of six Manufacturers’ titles over those years. |
“It’s always exciting for me as an enthusiast to present not just
great examples of significant motor cars, but also pieces of
history that represent a significant chapter in that marque’s
story,” notes David Gooding, President and Founder of Gooding &
Company. “We feel honored to be selected to present such great
cars as the rare and prominent 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, the
prototype for the famed 275 GTB model line, and some of the
finest examples of Ferrari’s great road cars in the 250 GT Lusso
and 330 GTC.” |
An extremely rare 1987 Ferrari F40 LM leads the Italian marque
entries. Upon entering production, the Ferrari F40 was already
the fastest road car of its time, but the ‘Le Mans’ version took the
model to new extremes – affording the car more aggressive
bodywork, more extreme front and rear wings, larger disc brakes
and calipers, revised suspension, a race-spec gearbox and a
stripped-out interior with a futuristic digital dashboard. Chassis
no. 74045 was originally used as a prototype car while the F40
was designed. |
“We are thrilled to present three exceptional Ferraris from the
1950s, perhaps the most vibrant and romantic period in the
marque’s history,” states David Brynan, Senior Specialist at
Gooding & Company. “Models like the 212, 250 MM, and Tour de
France established Ferrari as a leading manufacturer on the world
stage and these particular examples are among the very best of
their respective breeds.” |
Bonhams is delighted to announced that a very special vintage
Ferrari has been consigned to its renowned annual sale next
month. The 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial Pinin Farina Spyder s/n
0438MD that was owned, raced and/or admired by four figures
central to popular culture, motoring history and California heritage
will be featured at the January 17th collectors’ car auction in
Scottsdale, Arizona. |
This time of the year, at the end of the season with the next one
just around the corner it is time to look back over the year and
the events one did attend. It is also the time to see what did not
make it online in time due to a packed schedule but could well
serve to get over the cold days until the classic cars are back on
the road for new adventures. |
TFans and representatives of Scuderia Ferrari Clubs from all over
Europe are flocking to the Ferrari Museum today for the opening
of the ‘Michael 50’ exhibition on the occasion of the champion's
50th birthday. Maranello has put together a special exhibition
telling the story of Michael Schumacher's extraordinary
record-breaking F1 career: the German champion won an as yet
unequalled seven world titles, 91 victories, and 155 podiums. |
Several of the most desirable lots in the sale are landmark
examples from the finest German marques in the world. The 1957
BMW 507 is a Series 1 example (€1,800,000 - 2,200,000),
meaning that it is eligible for some of the most prestigious events
in the world including the Mille Miglia and the Tour Auto. It is one
of only 34 Series 1 examples built and has matching numbers
throughout. The interior is delightfully original, and the engine is
effectively 'as new.' The eye-catching teal exterior makes this one
of the most distinctive and attractive examples of BMW's most
beautiful model. |
RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to release the complete catalogue for the
company’s first sale of 2019—Arizona. With the catalogue, which
features 158 motor cars, a selection of automobilia, one
motorcycle, and one trailer, RM Sotheby’s has announced final,
headline entries for the auction, which are led by an incredibly
rare and fascinating 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Coupe Speciale by
Pinin Farina, alongside the ultimate Ferrari road car of this
century—a 2017 LaFerrari Aperta. |
This remarkable Formula 1 racing car is particularly iconic to any
motorsport enthusiast as it boasts an impressive pedigree. |
The annual Autosport International Racing Car Show, in
conjunction with the Performance & Tuning Car Show, was held
at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre between 11 – 13
January. The show filled five halls of the venue spread in a
U-shape around the north concourse, with a further hall
occupying the Live aaction Arena. The main show covered
virtually every facet of the many genres of motor sport, whilst the
Performance & Tuning Car Show in Hall 4 catered mainly for
those for whom the standard product needs personalisation or
modification to satisfy their needs. |
The exquisite 1952 Maserati A6G 2000 Frua Spider, the sole
surviving example, was the star of the auction. Expertly
researched, documented and restored, it was a participant in the
world’s two most prestigious concours d’elegance – Pebble
Beach and Villa d’Este. Not surprisingly, bidding – in both the
room and on the telephones – was brisk and the breathtaking
sportscar sold for $2.755-million, setting a new world auction
record for the model. |
On a weekend that brought in crowds of aficionados, Ferraris
dominated the top of the market days with several sales in the
top ten coming from the marque, including the 1963 Ferrari 250
GT SWB Berlinetta which sold for an astonishing $7,595,000, the
1958 Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France selling for $5,890,000, the
1953 Ferrari 250 MM Spider Series II selling for a world-record
$5,395,000, the 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO selling for $2,507,500, the
1952 Ferrari 212 Europa Cabriolet for $1,930,000, and the 1963
Ferrari 250 GT Lusso which sold for $1,902,500. |
RM Sotheby’s kicked off its 2019 auction calendar this past week
with the company’s 20th annual Arizona sale, 17-18 January at
the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix. The two-evening auction totaled
$37 million in sales, with 85 percent of all lots finding new homes.
The top sale of the week was a fresh-to-market, 2,900-mile 1985
Ferrari 288 GTO, which drew enthusiastic bidding from several
parties on Thursday night before selling for a final $3,360,000
(est. $3.2/3.6m). |
Cavallino Classic 28 is on its way. After a private test day
yesterday at the nearby Palm Beach International Raceway
finally the visitors had the first chance to have a look at some
Ferrari old and new at the track today. Although the track days
are certainly not what they used to be back in the times of the
Ferrari Challenge the driving part is getting less and less every
year. For the first time the track did not see any racing action but
purely some free track time for either GT cars on a free track or
cruise groups behind a pace car. |
Smaller but refined, this might be the motto for this year’s
concours at the famous Breakers hotel. The main event of
Cavallino Classic 28 was spoiled by rainy weather all day but the
small but selected field of Ferrari Classic was still worth a visit.
Smaller than in previous years especially the lower lawn featured
less modern Ferrari as well as the 365 range was very thin but
the upper lawn in front of the hotel was more than a
compensation. |
Rained out... this year's Cavallino Classic in Florid ended like
they began on Thursday during the private track day at the Palm
Beach International Raceway, with torrential rain. Whereas the
Concours on Saturday at the lawn at the Breakers suffered from
various showers this day at the Presidents Country Club, the
famous Mar-a-Lago, saw nothing but rain during most of the day.
After the wet days before the lawn was flooded in parts when the
cars arrived in the morning and after a first try to reach their
destination on the field the surface appeared too wet ... |
Bonhams held its eighth sale at the magnificent Grand Palais.
The marathon sale saw more than 140 cars crossing the rostrum
over several hours and spirited bidding taking place beneath the
cavernous glass domes of the Grand Palais. The top lot of the
sale was the imposing and elegant 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540 K
Cabriolet A, formerly owned by His Majesty King Hussein bin
Talal, former King of Jordan. It sold for €1,581,250 to a European
bidder in the room. |
The 1987 Ferrari F40 LM was the undoubted star lot of the sale
and represented a very rare opportunity to acquire one of
Maranello’s legendary sports racing cars of the modern era. The
car offered is a unique piece of Ferrari history as it not only
boasts a significant and successful competition history, but it
also played an important development role as a pre-production
prototype. As a result, pre-sale interest in the car was very strong
and intense bidding in the room and over the phones saw the car
achieve €4,842,500 to set a new world record for the model. |
Artcurial Motorcars once again dominated the annual week of
collectors’ car sales in Paris with the auction Re?tromobile 2019
by Artcurial Motorcars. Taking place over three days from 8 – 10
February, the sale realised € 42,304,574 / $47,804,169 up 31 %
on the previous year, with 10 new auction record prices. |
“Porsche completely dominated endurance racing during the
1970s and 1980s with cars like the Carrera RS, 935, and 962,”
states David Brynan. “Today, these are the most important and
sought-after models from this golden era of motorsport, and we
are thrilled to present three outstanding examples at our Amelia
Island Auction, as they complement an already outstanding
selection of Porsches from The Jan Koum Collection, The Dobbs
Motorsport Collection, and The Brumos Collection.” |
Every year early in February the “City of Love” becomes the “City
of Classic Cars”, when the annual Retromobile opens its doors for
5 days at the Parc d´Exposition at the Porte de Versailles. Early
in the season the famous indoor trade show in Paris sets the
signal for the market with no fewer than 3 major auction
companies accompanying the show starting the busy sales
calendar on this side of the Atlantic after the Scottsdale sales
earlier in January. |
Creating an entirely new and modern take on the Ferrari sports
prototype concept is both an ambitious and complex undertaking.
But it was in this spirit, and with very specific input from the
client, that the new Ferrari one-off, the P80/C, was conceived.
The Ferrari Styling Centre, under the direction of Flavio Manzoni,
and the engineering and aerodynamics team worked
hand-in-glove with the client, sharing principles and visions in
order to create a new “Hero Car” with an absolutely unique and
authentic soul. |

de ce secteur. |
The 89th Geneva International Motor Show was held between the
07 and 17 March at its regular venue of the Palexpo exhibition
centre, conveniently situated adjacent to Geneva international
airport. The show provided plenty of new offerings, not only from
major manufacturers, but also niche market constructors and
“personalisation” specialists, for visitors to enjoy through the
course of the show. In all there were around seventy world and
twenty European premieres ranging from the miniscule Citroen
Ami One concept car to the gargantuan Hispano Suiza Carmen,
both of which featured electric propulsion, as did a number of the
other new offerings. |
RM Sotheby’s, is delighted to return to the shores of Lake Como,
Italy, for its highly anticipated biennial Villa Erba sale, 25 May,
during the revered Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este weekend. As
ever, this prestigious showcase sale will feature the very best
investment-quality cars available to the market. With an historic
and highly original 1931 Aston Martin 1.5-litre International
‘LM5’ already setting the tone for early entries, RM Sotheby’s is
now delighted to announce four stunning and highly collectable
Zagato-bodied cars, particularly fitting in the legendary Italian
company’s 100th anniversary year. |
The Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena unveils a new exhibition,
“Timeless Masterpieces”, with some of the most elegant cars in
the history of the marque on display. When selecting the models,
the curators of this collection focused on gran turismo and sports
models, both for their iconic value and for the important role they
played in the stylistic revolution of the Ferrari brand, giving shape
to the aesthetic vision of their respective eras and leaving their
mark on the automotive industry and beyond. |
The 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K Autobahn-Kurier and 1957 Ferrari
335 S were crowned this year’s Best in Show on March 10, 2019
at the 24th annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. The event
once again brought together the best of the automotive world,
including 2019 honoree, “Mr. Le Mans” Jacky Ickx. The legendary
Ickx is a six-time Le Mans winner, 1979 Can-Am Champion, a
Formula 1 victor and a Daytona, Sebring and Paris-Dakar winner. |
Goodwood certainly is one of the best known location for classic
cars event over the last 25 years with the international acclaimed
Revival and the Festival of Speed. Few people know that the
original race track in Chichester did not only host the RAC
Tourist Trophy in the 1960s that is celebrated ever year during the
Revival with the race for the GT cars of the era, but also hosted
no less than 71 weekend race meeting for the members of the
Goodwood Road Racing Club. |
At Messe Essen during the renowned Techno Classica Essen
fair, RM Sotheby’s wrapped up the company’s first-ever German
auction, reaching total sales of €18.7 million with 86 percent of all
229 lots on offer finding new homes. The two-day sale represents
one of the most successful and significant collector car auctions
ever held in Germany in terms of both total value and number of
cars sold. The auction took place in a packed room on both days
and drew bidders from 46 countries, with more than 40 percent of
participants being first-time RM Sotheby’s clientele. |
The Techno Classica is Europeans largest Classic Car Trade
Show and behind the Retromobile in Paris probably the most
traditional. For 30 years now the TC attracts visitors from all over
the world to Essen in April and the 31st edition was visited again
by more than 190 thousand classic car enthusiasts. In Essen it
is all about the numbers, bigger is better and for many years the
limit seemed to be the trade centre in Essen that is much more
dated than the new one of the competitor in Stuttgart. |
When people talk about Ferrari and racing certainly most of them
are thinking of Ferrari being the only team to compete in Formula
1 since the beginning in 1950. But back in the days the sports
and GT cars of Ferrari were on top of the game and even more
than in F1 the marque from Maranello dominated the international
racing scene outside the open wheel racing. Today the GT cars
from the 1960 like the 250 GT SWB or the GTO are icons and on
top of the shopping list of the wealthy collectors. |
It is that time of the year when the former Tour de France de
Automobiles is held in France. Just a few days after the
disastrous fire in Notre Dame almost 240 cars made their way to
another landmark of the French capitol, the Grand Palais for the
28th edition of the French classic car rally. The majestic building
with its steel and glass structured dome once again was the
perfect ambience for the cars to be lined up. |
The Tour Auto Optic 2ooo cavalcade left the lights of the capital
in the early hours of the morning on its way to the
Vaux-le-Vicomte château for the official start of the 28th staging
of the rally. On the first day’s programme was a 400-km leg with
a special stage in the morning followed by a trip to the
Dijon-Prenois circuit in the afternoon after which the cars went to
the Dijon parc-fermé installed in front of the town’s Palais de
Sports. |

The 20th edition of the Bonhams Aston Martin Sale, the leading
European auction dedicated to the Aston Martin and Lagonda
marques, will be staged for the first time at the renowned
Wormsley Estate in the Chiltern Hills of Buckinghamshire, on
Sunday 19th May, home of a world-famous cricket ground, in
conjunction with the Aston Martin Owners Club concours. Nearly
seventy years of British automotive history will be offered, from a
1952 Lagonda to a 2019 Vanquish Zagato shooting brake,
with every decade of production represented. This includes the
top lot, a 1963 DB4 series V convertible, one of only 70 ever
made. |
Nick Mason once differed between car rallies one is gaining
weight and those one is losing. The first ones are tours leading
from one Michelin Star Restaurant to the other over picturesque
roads with countless coffee stops. The later ones are more like
the Tour Auto: about 14 hours of driving with a short buffet lunch
stop, visit to the race track and driving special stages on
unknown country roads preferable in the mountain. A quick dinner
at the parc fermé at the destination of the day with short nights in
hotel chains. |
After the final battle on the Le Mans Bugatti circuit and two
special stages the 28th Tour Auto Optic 2000 finished in
Normandy. Raphaël Favaro and Yves Badan (Lotus Elan) win the
Tour Auto Optic 2000 for the second consecutive year. Eric
Hamoniau and Edouard Lotthe (Ferrari 250 GT Lusso) are first in
Regularity. In Deauville the competitors were eagerly awaited all
evening to mark the end of a journey in which they covered 2280
km including almost 105 km on closed roads. This year the rally
was only the Tour in name as it executed a loop round France. |
This past weekend in St. Louis, Missouri, RM Sotheby’s
presented the company’s 34th private collection at auction—the
esteemed Guyton Collection, entirely without reserve, achieving
$11,680,537 in total sales. Comprising the remarkable
automobiles and collectibles of the late Mr. Fred Guyton, the
two-day sale was held at the collection site, drawing strong
bidding activity from more than 27 countries around the world,
with more than 40 percent of bidders representing first-time RM
Sotheby’s clientele. |
Leading the expanded Zagato-bodied offering, a 1955 Maserati
A6G/2000 Berlinetta will go under the hammer at Villa Erba, one
of just 20 such cars by Zagato and the first in Berlinetta
configuration. Likely used by Maserati for testing in 1955, the
A6G/2000 raced in numerous prestigious Italian events in period.
Chassis no. 2102 was driven in practice by Sir Stirling Moss and
Denis Jenkinson for the 1956 Mille Miglia, subsequently entering
the race piloted by Italian driver Arnaldo Bellini with journalist
Nicolo Carosio as co-driver. Now offered from 20 years of
single-ownership, the Maserati is estimated to bring €3.000.000 -
€3.500.000 later this month. |
Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the Pebble
Beach Concours d’Elegance®, is pleased to announce a
stunning competition 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France
Berlinetta to be offered at the company’s highly anticipated
Pebble Beach Auctions on August 16 and 17, 2019.
Accompanying this particularly noteworthy and memorable
Ferrari is a duo of celebrated cars from the esteemed marque
that are sure to garner attention from worldwide Ferraristas. |
An ultra-rare 1952 Gordini Type 15S Barquette (Sport
Barchetta), will be casting its spell upon the fairytale chateau of
Chantilly as one of the top lots (estimate €700,000 - €1,000,000)
in the Bonhams Chantilly Sale on 30 June 2019. The Gordini
15S, (chassis number 18), is one of just two four-cylinder engine
barchettas in the world built by the sports car manufacturer – and
the only one available for the discerning collector to purchase,
with the other, chassis number 20, belonging to the renowned
Schlumpf Collection in France’s national motor museum in
Mulhouse. |
Bonhams roars into its spiritual home of Goodwood for its
Festival of Speed Sale on 7 July, as ever offering an incredible
range of racing machines encompassing the full breadth of
motoring competition history. From the glory days of Italian
racing, the 1935 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 ‘Long Chassis’ Tourer is
leading the grid, one of the last examples of the very first Alfa
Romeo eight-cylinder models. For estimate, refer to department. |
This year possibly the most prominent racing car in Porsche
motor racing history is celebrating its 50th birthday: the Porsche
917. The Porsche Museum is honouring the 50th anniversary of
the racing sport icon from 14 May to 15 September 2019 as part
of a comprehensive special exhibition entitled “50 Years of the
Porsche 917 – Colours of Speed”. A total of 14 exhibits –
including ten 917 models alone with a total of 7,490 PS – will be
on show. |
The annual Auto Italia magazine Italian Car Day was held at its
regular venue of the Brooklands Museum complex in Weybridge,
Surrey, on Saturday 04 May. The gathering attracted a massive
turnout of Italian machinery of both the two and four wheel variety,
ranging from cute little Fiat 500s to a wide variety of supercars,
with virtually something for everybody in between. The bright and
sunny early start to the day, albeit with a chilly breeze, was no
doubt a determining factor in the impressive array of vehicles on
display, and also to the large number of visitors to the event, with
all the car parks being full to capacity before lunch. |

A week after the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe meeting
at Brands Hatch the teams were at the Silverstone circuit, where
there was a strong 48 car entry for the Blancpain Endurance Cup
race on Sunday 12 May. They comprised of a number of the cars
that had appeared at Brands Hatch, plus numerous others that
were only participating in the Endurance Cup series. The support
programme comprised of rounds of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo
Europe series, together with rounds of the Formula Renault
Eurocup single seater series, whilst there were also “hot laps”
and a supercar display in the paddock. |
The Blancpain GT series visited the UK at the beginning of May
with back to back race meetings over the first two weekends, the
first being the World Challenge Europe (ex-Sprint series) at
Brands Hatch on 05 May, followed by the Endurance Cup at
Silverstone the following weekend. The races at Brands Hatch
attracted a 26 car grid and were held on the long “Grand Prix”
circuit. There was a strong support programme headed by the
GT4 European Series, with a pair of 60mins races, each
preceding the Sunday’s World Challenge Europe races |

Artcurial Motorcars will hold their new summer sale, Automobiles
en scène, in the historic Théâtre du Rond-Point des
Champs-Elysées, in the heart of Paris. The first sale will take
place on Monday 17 June 2019, following two days of viewing on
‘La plus belle avenue du monde’. This inaugural sale will offer a
line-up of some 80 collectors cars, and appearing on stage will be
one of the all-time great Maranello models, a 1965 Ferrari 275
GTB from the renowned collection of Jean-Pierre Slavic, as well
as an exceptional private collection of nine Porsche. |
Giovanni Moceri and Daniele Bonetti of the Team Alfa Romeo
won the 1000 Miglia 2019. The duo in a 1928 Alfa Romeo 6C
1500 SS - owned by the Alfa Romeo Museum of Arese - won the
37th historical re-enactment, with 74752 points. Moceri, a doctor
from Palermo, and Bonetti, a journalist from Brescia, beat the
Villa Trasqua team, composed by two Brescians, Andrea Vesco
and Andrea Guerini who, in a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS
Zagato, gained 73611 points. |
Perfect harmony between the public and the Jury of experts
enabled the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B to gain a one-two victory at
the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2019. The stylishly
captivating and technically sophisticated two-door coupé from the
year 1937 was crowned overall winner of the world’s most
traditional heritage beauty contest for historic vehicles, just one
day after its success in the Public Referendum. The event held
under the motto “The Symphony of Engines – 90 Years of the
Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este & BMW Automobiles” therefore
became a solo for the rare gem from Milan |
Pre-sale, it was two incredible sports racing machines from the
1950s which had garnered significant attention, and on the night
it was the same two cars which stole the show. The top seller
was the original, matching-numbers 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial
Spider, chassis no. 0448 MD, the 12th of just 13 Pinin Farina
Spiders built. The car boasts extensive period racing history and
is an exceptionally eligible car for historic racing and concours
events. Fully restored and Ferrari Classiche certified, the car was
deservedly bought for €3,717,500. |
The London Motor & Tech Show presented by leasing.com in
association with Drivetribe was held at the Excel Exhibition
Centre between 16-19 May. The show occupied three halls of the
exhibition centre, two being the province of static displays, whilst
the third featured live action which encompassed electric
go-karts, a wall of death, Caterham Drift Taxis and renowned
stunt driver Paul Swift performing some amazing feats. If you
wanted to take the wheel yourself, there was also the opportunity
for test drives in a variety of vehicles, or if you wanted to drive
remotely then there was the Theo Racing Bugs remote control

Ferrari introduces a new chapter in its history with the
introduction of its first series production PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid
Electric Vehicle), the SF90 Stradale, images, videos and
information on which can be seen on the dedicated web site:
SF90stradale.com. The new model is extreme on every level and
represents a true paradigm shift, because it delivers
unprecedented performance for a production car. Figures such as
1,000 cv, and a weight-to-power ratio of 1.57 kg/cv, and 390 kg of
downforce at 250 km/h not only put the SF90 Stradale at the top
of its segment, but also mean that a V8 is the top-of-the-range
model for the first time in the marque’s history. |
In the classic car calendar the May usually is packed with
numerous events ranging from international rallies and concours
to more local events. With the late edition of this year’s Tour Auto
there was literally an event every weekend and sometimes one
had to choose. After chasing cars through France and Italy and
watching the line-up of masterpieces at the Lago di Como the
month ended in Austria with the Gaisbergrennen. Although not
having the same international reputation as the Mille Miglia or the
Villa d´Este Concours the race up the hill at Salzburg can look
back at a long tradition. |
110 years ago Ettore Bugatti founded the famous sports and
touring car company under his own name after working as
constructor at companies like de Dietrich and Deutz
Motorenwerke. Within just a few years the name Bugatti was very
well known on the race tracks as no other company before the
war was winning as many races all over the world. Over the years
Bugatti did not only construct the famous GP racers but also a
vary of touring cars but apart from the famous Royale all of them
were intended as drivers rather than chauffeurs cars. |
The fourth Concours d’Élégance Suisse(CES) award ceremony –
held on Sunday June 23rdin Coppet, near Geneva – saw an
international multi-disciplinary Jury award 42 prizes including its
highest distinction, the Best of Show prize. The latter went to the
1953 Ferrari 250 GT Europa de 1953, chassis No. 0295EU with
coachwork by Vignale, which also won the Jury The President’s
Choice Award (Prize of Exception) |
For four days, this prestigious event brought together the most
beautiful cars in the world, offering an amazing journey through
time to automobile enthusiasts. On Thursday, June 27th the first
of the 47 cars arrived at 2 PM on the Terrasses du Soleil in
Monte-Carlo. A remarkable location enjoyed by a swelling crowd
of spectators. The next day, Friday, offered a pleasant ride into
the countryside on the winding roads of the Côte d’Azur. Mid
way, attendees enjoyed a picnic at the Domaine du Mont Leuz.
Early in the afternoon the drivers made their way back to the
Principality for the meeting with the jury, giving them an
opportunity to share details about their cars. |
“Pininfarina is recognized as one of the world’s premiere
coachbuilders,” says President and Founder of Gooding &
Company, David Gooding. “Their designs have been hailed as
groundbreaking, incredibly influential, and always stunningly
beautiful. We are proud to be offering some of Pininfarina’s most
famous work when the celebrated firm from Torino was at the
pinnacle of its power.” |
Bonhams will be returning to Geneva on Sunday 29 September,
for a very special sale, featuring a private collection of 25
supercars, hypercars and luxury motor cars – all to be offered
without reserve – to be presented at the prestigious Bonmont
Golf & Country Club. The sale will take place in a 12th century
abbey, which is next to the Clubhouse, a former chateau
overlooking Lake Geneva. |
An ultra-rare 1952 Gordini Type 15S Barquette (Sport Barchetta),
proved to be the Chatelaine of Chantilly and the top lot in today's
Bonhams sale taking place at the prestigious Arts et Elegance
concours, in the grounds of the famous Château. Following
extensive national interest prior to the sale and a bidding battle,
the Gordini 15S sold for an impressive total of €708,000 to a
European buyer in the room, who earned applause from the chic
visitors attending the motoring garden party. |
Since the London motor show closed its doors some years ago
the interest of the international brands turned towards Goodwood
and not only do they built huge temporary show rooms at the
infield but also choose Goodwood for the unveiling of new
offerings, so not few cars celebrated their global debut at the FoS
as the re-introduction of the De Tomaso brand on one end but
also the unveiling of the new Porsche 911 RSR right on the
starting line. |
Leading the group is a 1962 Ferrari 250 SWB California
Spider, chassis no. 4131GT, the second to last of all examples
built and the only remaining unrestored SWB Cal Spider.
Undoubtedly the most original, well-preserved example in the
world, the Cal Spider is presented in its original colors and with
its original interior. Delivered new to Switzerland, in 1971 the car
passed to Canadian George Carrick, who used the car as the
inspiration for his book The Spyder California, one of the first
Ferrari books ever published on a particular model, which would
go on to become the go-to resource for the car. Having had just
four owners in the last 50 years, the SWB California Spider is
offered in Monterey from more than 25 years of single ownership,
in fully numbers-matching, Ferrari Classiche Certified condition
(Est. $10,500,000 - $13,000,000). |
H.R. Owen’s new flagship London Ferrari Atelier Showroom in
Berkeley Square, in the heart of Mayfair, had its official opening
ceremony during the evening of Thursday 11 July. As a prelude,
over the three days leading up to the opening ceremony they had
a four car display in the gardens of Berkeley Square opposite the
showroom. This comprised of a 750 Monza, a 250 GT SWB
California Spider, a 250 GTO and the current limited edition
Monza SP1, which was housed in a glass sided box, which was
illuminated at intervals to reveal the car. On the opening evening
there were five further Ferraris displayed on red carpets outside
and across the street on the square side opposite the showroom,
including a LaFerrari and a 488 GTE EVO from the 2019 Le Mans
24 Hour Race. |
“In the world of vintage Ferraris, most would agree that the 250
GT California Spider is in a class of its own,” states David
Gooding, President and Founder of Gooding & Company. “It is
the quintessential open Ferrari, and this example exhibits highly
desirable features including covered headlights, Classiche
certification, numerous awards, and a unique and stunning color
scheme.” |
When people unfamiliar with the Classic Days get an introduction
in what to expect not seldom the name Goodwood is involved in
the explanations, not only because of the chequered flags around
the trees in the tree-lined road reminding on the start at the
driveway of the Earl of March, but the whole concept is certainly
inspired by the famous events in the south-west of the
motherland of traditional car events. The Classic Days combine in
a smaller scale the Goodwood FoS and parts of the ambience of
the Revival, but they are not a simple copy but defined their own
style over the years. |
Since the racetrack of Laguna Seca changed hands recently the
new owners from Weathertech are trying to bring back more
action to the track and so beside the annual main event of the
Superbikes finally the Indycars will be back in September and the
required safety measures brought some new fencing around the
track restricting the work of the photographers a little bit giving
the challenge to find some new angles. For the spectators it did
not change to much but the numbers of visitors remained limited
this year as the pre-reunion now has an entrance fee of 40
Dollars, not long ago the pre-reunion was even free. |
Car week is here! After the prelude on the weekend finally the
Monterey Car Week was kicked off today with the annual
Concours on the Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea. In contrast to all
the expensive events in the next days with entry fees of several
hundred dollars the Concours in Carmel is the counterpart as it is
completely free to the public. Two days before the cars of Pebble
Beach will be parked here during their tour the main street of
Carmel became the first venue of the car shows during car week.
Round about 8:30 the first cars entered the blocks in centre
Carmel to be on display on a beautiful sunny day. |
Now the car week is in full swing. After the Concours on the
Avenue yesterday in Carmel the auction company opened their
doors today to show their offering of the days to come. |
The Monterey Car Week now is in full swing and the great final at
the Golf Course in Pebble Beach seems to come nearer. Today
finally was the first day many of the entered cars of Sundays
Concours could be seen outside the trailer park as the annual
Tour D´Elegance from the Pebble Beach grounds down Highway
1 to Big Sur and back through Carmel was on the program. Since
a few day the weather is unusual friendly in the morning hours
and today again the typical fog of the coast line did not show up
when the fist cars were lined up well before 7am in front of the
Gooding & Company tent. |
The Monterey Car Week is heading towards the weekend and
daily there are more events to visit. Beside the well-known ones
there are more and more new ones coming up and it seems that
everybody wants a piece of the cake. What started many years
ago with a single Concours on Sunday is now a full week with
countless Auctions, Shows and Parties and nobody can make
them all, so one has to decide on the focus well in advance as
tickets and credentials are limited. We again decided to make
the Friday the Quail Motorsport Gathering day, the garden party
of Sir Michael Kadoorie in the Quail Lodge. |
The action-packed weekend began on Friday evening with
numerous notable sales. The 1975 Ferrari 312T achieved
$6,000,000, the 1913 Isotta Fraschini Tipo IM sold for a
world-record price of $2,645,000, the 1930 Duesenberg Model J
Sport Berline generated $2,040,000, and the 1991 Porsche 911
Reimagined by Singer realized $857,500. These cars and many
others were brand new to the market and were skillfully delivered
to their new homes. Without a doubt the star of Friday’s auction
was the highly publicized 1975 Ferrari 312T, once driven by the
legendary Niki Lauda. The first 312T ever to be sold at auction
was greeted with a standing ovation from a packed auction tent.
When the bidding finished at $6,000,000, the camera flashes
from a boisterous audience were reminiscent of the 312T’s Grand
Prix podium win. |
It is done! The Monterey Car Week finally came to an end on
Sunday afternoon when the BoS winning Bentley 8 Litre crossed
the ramp in the fireworks in front of the Pebble Beach Lodge. |
Despite shifting market conditions observed throughout the
Monterey Peninsula this year, RM Sotheby’s saw several
stand-out prices achieved for exceptional collector cars over the
course of the three-day Monterey sale, including new world
records set each night. RM Sotheby’s top lot of the auction, and
the most valuable car sold during 2019 Monterey Car Week, was
the highly anticipated 1994 McLaren F1 “LM-Specification”,
the world’s most revered modern supercar, which sold for a final
$19,805,000, setting a new auction record for the marque on
Friday evening. |
Bonhams’ 22nd annual collector car auction last week during
Monterey Car Week, held in conjunction with the prestigious
Quail Motorsport Gathering, was a two-day sale that offered 217
cars and achieved a highly respectable sell-through rate of 76%
resulting in over $32-million total. The highlight of this globally
attended sale was the extraordinary 1951 Ferrari 340 America
Vignale Coupe Speciale that had been in single family ownership
for the last 50 years. After enthusiastic bidding, the charismatic
Italian competition GT was bought by a sophisticated European
collector for $3,635,000. |
After a long season the September normally provides the last
weekends with more or less predictable late summer weather
conditions and so this is one of the busiest months in the classic
car calendar. Traditionally at the beginning of the month the
concours in greater London are on the program with the Salon
Privé in Blenheim Palace and the Concours of Elegance held in
the royal castles. After a very successful first edition at Windsor
castle celebrating the queens crown jubilee the event became an
annual event with further editions held in St. James Palace in
Central London, in Hampton Court and even in Edinburgh. |
It is done! The Monterey Car Week finally came to an end on
Sunday afternoon when the BoS winning Bentley 8 Litre crossed
the ramp in the fireworks in front of the Pebble Beach Lodge. |
Reaffirming its place as the UK’s most exclusive Concours
d’Elégance, the 2019 Salon Privé Concours d’Elégance by
Chubb Insurance saw some of the world’s rarest and most
spectacular classic cars and motorcycles battle it out against the
breath-taking backdrop of Blenheim Palace. |
An ultra-rare and exceptional 1935 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante
was the top lot in this weekend’s Bonhams Goodwood Revival
Sale, selling for a top estimate £1,499,000, in the sale which
totalled £11,000,000. This beautiful and incredibly original
example from the prestigious marque’s ‘golden era’ was one of
only a very few surviving Atalante fixed-head coupés. The Bugatti
was the jewel in the crown of a stunning collection of the late
Barry Burnett, acquired as a straight swap for a Delage from
another collector in the 1980s. |
The splendid Fountain Gardens of Hampton Court Palace once
again hosted the Concours of Elegance, presented by A. Lange
& Sohne, over the weekend of 06 – 08 September. It featured a
broad ranging display of some 75 cars in the concours for
attendees’ delectation, together with a large number of club and
trade displays to add to the mix, totalling some 1000 cars of all
ages. Late summer sunshine over the three days, made it all the
more enjoyable for participants and visitors alike. |
The third running of Festival Italia, in association with Auto Italia
magazine, was held at Brands Hatch on Sunday 19 August 2019,
on what started out as a rather cool and wet day. However, the
forecast was that the rain would cease by midday, and for once
the forecast was correct, as virtually on the chimes it ceased and
a hazy sun appeared, leading into a pleasant sunny and warm
afternoon. |
When people think of Ferrari today they immediately think of
Pinin Farina as well as for decades now the design studio in
Torino is responsible for most of the creations leaving the factory
in Maranello. But going back into the early years of Ferrari
another famous Carrozzeria becomes to mind as one of the
starting points of the myth of the Prancing Horse, both in the
design of exciting sports car as well as the successful race car
manufacturer under the banner of the Scuderia Ferrari: Touring of
Milano. |
The weekend of 31 August/01 September saw the Silverstone
circuit host a double header for fans of endurance racing, with the
ELMS 4 Hours of Silverstone on the Saturday, and Round 1 of
the 2019-2020 FIA WEC series featuring another 4 hour race on
the Sunday. The two main races of the weekend were supported
by rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GT series. |
The entry for the FIA WEC 4 Hours of Silverstone comprised of
31 cars, 6 in the LMP1 class, 8 in the LMP2 class, 6 in the
LMGTE Pro class and 11 in the LMGTE Am class. For the LMP1
qualifying session it was really only a question of would it be the
#7 or the #8 Toyota on pole position? The answer was the #7 car
which was qualified by Kobayashi/Conway, from the #8 car
piloted by Buemi/Nakajima 0.3sec in arrears, with the #3
Rebellion qualified by Senna/Menezes in 3rd place, surprisingly
only 0.545sec off the pole position time. |

high octane entertainment, both on and off the track. Not only
was the event its always spectacular self, but it was bathed in
pleasant late summer sunshine, with ambient temperatures in the
mid 20s, for the duration, making everything that much more
enjoyable. Apart from the meeting’s 21st birthday, there were a
number of celebrations over the course of the weekend, including
the 60th anniversary of the Mini, with a massive array of the
brainchild of Sir Alec Issigonis spread around the venue. |

today in New York City. The only space of its kind in the
Americas, this new Center continues the long-standing tradition
of car customization and personalization that began at the factory
in Maranello in the 1950s and later grew into the inception of the
Tailor Made Center in 2011, followed by the Shanghai Tailor Made
Center in 2014. |
The annual Auto Clássico show was held at its regular venue of
the Exponor exhibition centre, close to the airport to the north of

centenary of Bentley, with a display that included a rare Turbo R
Shooting Brake. Lower down the price scale there was also the
60th anniversary of the Mini, and the 50th anniversary of the Fiat
128 model was celebrated on the Fiat club stand. |
The Museu do Caramulo, unsurprisingly given its name, is in the
small mountain town of Caramulo in central Portugal, which came
into being around 1920 when a Dr Jeronimo Lacerda established
a tuberculosis sanatorium in the location. The town evolved as a
support structure for those who worked there and for visitors to
patients. Dr Lacerda had two sons, Abel and Joao, who were
both born in the town. After their father died in 1945, and with the
advent of new antibiotics that all but eradicated the disease
during the fifties, the sanatorium was virtually redundant. |

recent years was unveiled at the Auto e Moto d’Epoca Show in
Padova by the authors Adolfo Orsi and Raffaele Gazzi. As with
the previous four editions, the end of August cut-off date means
that the results from all the major auctions in Monterey,

When observing the classic car scene over the last few years
there is a continuous shift towards static shows rather than
driving events, be it because the value of the cars preventing their
intended usage or a new sort of collector that also tries to protect
their investment. Whereas years ago the entry into events like
the Mille Miglia added to the provenance of blue chip cars more
and more money is invested into showing cars on various lawn all
over the world to get cars into public attention. |

been achieved using innovative concepts derived from its track
experience and feedback from the teams competing with the 488
GT3. |

conditions, and also improves the handling for even better
feedback and driving pleasure. |

Passion” to be well justified. |

spread around the external apron between the two halls.
Unfortunately for those in the outside area there was virtually
