The Museo Lamborghini is situated to the right of the main
entrance of the factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, which is a
historic small town in the countryside, approximately mid way
between Bologna and Modena. A bonus of its location right on
the factory premises is that one will see cars being taken out on
test, and maybe even spot the odd prototype. The factory is on
the main SP 255, Via Modena, on the outskirts of the town, but
within walking distance of the historic centre, and is still the site
on which Ferruccio Lamborghini established the original factory in
1963. |
“La Macchina del tempo – Museo Storico Alfa Romeo” is the

between past, present and future. In Arese, next to Milan city
center and the Expo area. |

Talacrest in the person of the company’s colourful founder John
Collins, a self confessed Ferrari fanatic from an early age,
celebrated 30 years in the classic Ferrari business, not with a
traditional open house event, but with the publication of a book
covering the business that the company has conducted over the
period. This includes the purchase and sale of over 1600
examples, with a total value in excess of a billion pounds. It all
started with capital borrowed from friends at the pub in 1987, after
he saw a dealer make a handsome profit on his pride and joy
Testarossa that he sold him when hit by recession, and since
then he has bought and sold some of the most important and
iconic Ferrari models produced, including no less than eight 250
GTOs, together with outstanding examples of other marques. |

An automotive legend of design and performance, the instantly
recognizable Porsche Spyder is in a class all its own. The first
Spyder, the 550, is most associated in popular culture with
James Dean who, like other race car drivers, admired it for its
beauty, speed and nimbleness. The 550’s successor, the 550A,
sported the same tantalizing design but was substantially
improved underneath. |

The Cavallino Classic is always an early highlight of the Ferrari
year. When Europe and North of the USA suffer from snow and
cold in the winter the Ferrari community heads down towards
Florida to celebrate the marque with the prancing horse in style.
For the 27th time the American Cavallino Magazine hosts the
Classics in Palm Beach starting with the track days at the
nearby Palm Beach International raceway. |
Today was the second and final day on the Palm Beach
International Raceway, formerly known as Moroso. Traditionally
the Cavallino Classic starts with the sportive part of the weekend
with two days of track action on the small circuit between Jupiter
and Palm Beach. Although the glorious days of the Ferrari
Historic Challenge with countless cars and thousands of
spectators are long gone still a few enthusiasts use their car as
they were intended: driving them fast. |
Already for the 27th time the Concours at the Breakers was the
highlight of the Cavallino Classic and what date would have
matched better than the 27th of January. After two rather quiet
days at the track the main event again attracted a lot of great
cars to the lawn of the famous Breakers hotel in the posh beach
town of Palm Beach. For decades the winter domicile of the rich
American there might be no better location to hold a Ferrari
Concours in January than in Palm Beach. |
Cavallino Classic 27 is history. Once again a memorable edition
of the Ferrari event organized by the Cavallino Magazine came to
an end at early Sunday afternoon in the gardens of the
Mar-a-Lago beach club. One year after President Trump taking
the highest position in the US Cavallino again got permission to
hold their Sunday lunch at the ballroom of what was nicknamed
“White House South”. |
Laurent Auxietre and Christophe Schmidt, two well established

some of the world’s most significant and valuable barn-find
discoveries, is thrilled to present two rare and iconic sport cars –
both of which have remained untouched for decades – at the
company’s Amelia Island Auction held on March 9, 2018. Back in
1991, this rare, beautiful 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Long Nose Alloy
and this iconic, muscular 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra, were driven
into a then-new garage in North Carolina, parked, and left
undisturbed for the next 26 years. |
RM Sotheby’s enjoyed a fantastic night at its fifth annual Paris
sale (7 February), bringing in a sale total of €23,745,225 with 83
percent of the 84 lots successfully sold. Demonstrating continued
interest in low-production modern-era hypercars, the 2017 Bugatti
Chiron was the night’s top seller, achieving an incredible
€3,323,750, while a 2005 Maserati MC12, one of just 50 ever
built, took second billing at a final €2,001,875. Proving that
blue-chip post-war classics also remain very much in demand,
the beautiful and remarkably original 1958 BMW 507 Roadster
Series II rounded off the top three, realizing €1,776,875. |
The Essex Racing Stable team 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT
Zagato ‘2 VEV’ is the most celebrated of all of the Newport
Pagnell marque’s early 1960s Grand Touring cars, and arguably
the most important of all of Carrozzeria Zagato’s creations. This
truly charismatic competition car is to be offered - absolutely
fresh from 47 years in single- family ownership - at Bonhams
Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale on 13 July. |
The snow was falling in Paris as collectors and enthusiasts
arrived for Retromobile’s official auction, Rétromobile 2018 by
Artcurial Motorcars. This year, the sale took place over two days,
on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 February, in front of over 3 000
people. With Maître Hervé Poulain on the rostrum, assisted by
the celebrated duo Matthieu Lamoure and Pierre Novikoff, the
sale realised €31,815,566 / $38,814,990, with 86 % of lots sold. |

yesterday, 8 February, at Le Grand Palais in Paris. The marathon
sale lasted more than 7 hours, and achieved a total of
€14,930,317 with 77% of lots sold. An auction world record was
achieved when the 1926 Bentley 3-Litre Red Label Speed
Model Tourer sold to a bidder on the telephone for €701,500, a
record for the model at auction. |
The 43rd running of the Retromobile show, at the Porte de
Versailles exhibition complex in Paris, once again produced a
marvellous cocktail of automobiles to delight enthusiasts of all
genres of classic motoring. This year there was one unforeseen
ingredient in the cocktail – snow! Heavy snowfall during the
Tuesday of the opening evening of the show, caused traffic
chaos, with reports of 700kms of traffic jams in the Paris region! It
also caused delays to trains and flights, resulting in a calmer
than normal day, in terms of numbers of attendees, on the
Wednesday, the first full day of opening. |
For its celebrated annual auction at Amelia Island, Florida,
Bonhams is pleased to announce that an exquisite trio of Lincoln
Zephyr Coupes from a single collection has been consigned. |
“It seems incredible to think that Enzo Ferrari was born in the
19th century,” says Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne. “His
lesson is more relevant than ever and his modernity
unquestionable. He was a man with extraordinary vision and
ability to manage people and resources as well as a strong
entrepreneurial spirit and exceptional courage. One wonders what
he could have achieved if he had had access to today’s technical
resources and knowledge. The mark that he left on the world
remains a source of pride for all of us at Ferrari and for the whole
of Italy.” |
The 488 Pista, which will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva
Motor Show, is the successor to Ferrari’s V8-engined special
series – the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458
Speciale – which have received critical acclaim for their
performance and undiluted handling. The Ferrari 488 Pista marks
a significant step forward from the previous special series in
terms of both sporty dynamics and for the level of technological
carry-over from racing. The name is, in fact, a direct homage to
Ferrari’s unparalleled heritage in motor sports. |
The fourth annual London Classic Car Show was held at London’s
Excel exhibition centre, in conjunction with Historic Motorsport
International, between 15-18 February. Last year the two shows
occupied separate halls on either side of the main exhibition
centre concourse, but this year they were combined into a single
expanded area. At the same time the central “Grand Avenue”, a
novel feature of the show from day one, where demonstration runs
take place through the course of the event, was lengthened to a
quarter of a mile, providing greater spectator viewing facilities. |
Hans Herrmann, one of the most successful and popular racing
drivers to join the Porsche AG works team, will be celebrating his
90th birthday this year on February 23. The endurance and
Monoposto specialist, born in Stuttgart in 1928, is regarded as
one of the most reliable and consistent race drivers of all time. In
the course of his motor sport career, Hans Herrmann won more
than 80 overall and best of class victories, most of them for
Porsche. |
The SF71H (the code name for the 669 project) is the sixty fourth
single-seater car designed and produced by Ferrari to compete in
the Formula 1 World Championship. Rule changes introduced
last season led to the introduction of significant aerodynamic
modifications and wider tyres, all aimed at increasing
performance. Therefore the new 2018 Ferrari F1 car has been
created to make the most of the experience gained last year.
Compared to 2017’s SF70H, the wheelbase has been changed
slightly, with the side dimensions also revised along with the
cooling system. |
Three motor cars with star-studded histories will be offered at
Bonhams Goodwood Members’ Meeting Sale on Sunday 18
March. The first is a 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 Est.
£400,000 - 500,000 which was originally owned by Beatles
legend, Sir Paul McCartney. The stylish touring car was one of
only 250 created, and one of only 4 said to have been imported
in to the UK. |
Over the years I’ve been lucky to visit many car shows and
automotive exhibitions plus, in recent times, be present at a
selection of major historic auctions. However, until now, all of
these have been in the UK. Therefore, it was an exciting prospect
to spend a few days in France for Rétromobile, attending not only
a huge European event, but the three associated classic and
historic car sales put on by the biggest and most respected
names in the business; Bonhams, RM Sotheby’s and, the home
nation’s, Artcurial. |
The 16th edition of the Race Retro show was held at its regular
venue at Stoneleigh Park, a 1000 acre estate only a short
distance south of Coventry, over the weekend of 23–25 February.
The new organisation, which took over the running of the show in
2017, and as the (free) programme said “powered by Motor Sport”
(magazine), once again provided a broad ranging array of offerings
for the visitors, both static in the display halls and action on the
rally stage. The popularity of the event continues to grow, with
over 23,000 visitors braving decidedly chilly weather to attend the
show, which was a 10% increase on the previous year’s figure. |
The 120 laps Sebastian Vettel drove today, brings the total
completed by the SF71H over what was effectively just a three
day session to 298, equivalent to 1387.19 km/h. After
yesterday’s snowfall, temperatures were very definitely on the up
today at the Catalunya Circuit: at the end of the session, there
had been a high of 12.7° air and almost 15 on track, but damp
conditions in the morning still affected the work. |

The 88th edition of the Geneva International Motor Show was held
between 8-18 March, and despite the current trend for
manufacturers to present their latest offerings either in full view or
as teasers, there is no substitute for seeing the real thing in the
metal, or whatever else it may be constructed from. Thus there
were plenty of new offerings, presented in all their glory, for
visitors to enjoy through the course of the show. |
The second and final winter test at the Catalunya Circuit has now
ended. Today, Kimi Raikkonen was behind the wheel of the
SF71H, having recovered, after being indisposed over the past few
days. He rattled off 157 laps, the best of them in 1’17”221, set
using the Hypersoft tyres. Scuderia Ferrari’s programme included
set-up work and a race simulation, running different types of tyre
and fuel loads. This was the hottest day of the entire two weeks
of testing, with temperatures over 20° and the track around the 37
mark. |

Mercedes-Benz will once again act as an automotive sponsor of
the 1000 Miglia to celebrate the highlights of historic motorsport
in the footsteps of the legendary 1000-mile race, thus continuing
the excellent partnership with 1000 Miglia organisers.
Mercedes-Benz will once again be attending the event taking
place between 16 and 19 May 2018, starting and finishing in
Brescia as well as along the around 1600 kilometre journey to

Automobiles sur les Champs, the annual Parisian event by
Artcurial Motorcars for all fans of collectors’ cars, returns to ‘La
plus belle avenue du monde’ on Sunday 8 April 2018. |
A long straight and then an incredible surge in which for a
moment all the driver can see is the sky. F1 Clienti drivers enjoy
this amazing experience on the first curve of the Circuit of the
Americas in Austin, where the first Ferrari Racing Days of the
season are underway. Two 412s, the T1 of 1994 and the T2 of
1995, with the V12 engine used by Prancing Horse single-seaters
for years, drew most attention from the fans. Both 412s won
races, with the T1 on the track at Austin triumphing in the 1994
German Grand Prix thanks to Gerhard Berger to end a Ferrari
drought that had dragged on for three seasons. |
A trip to the Antipodes has delivered Ferrari’s 230th win, a ninth
for Sebastian Vettel with the Scuderia (the 48th of his career) at
the end of a race that was unforgettable in terms of the
excitement it delivered and a perfect job from the team. Starting
from third on the grid, Seb made the most of the Safety Car
period to pop out of pit lane ahead of Hamilton, while Kimi
Raikkonen, from second, rounded off the Australian podium in
third place, doing a great job of fighting off an attacking Ricciardo
in the closing stages. |

You always fight to win, but not all victories are the same and
this one is bittersweet. For the second time in as many races,
Sebastian Vettel won with Scuderia Ferrari, but at the moment,
the thoughts of everyone in the team are with the mechanic who
was injured during Kimi Raikkonen’s pit stop, the Finn stopping
and retiring immediately after in pit lane. |
On a sunny afternoon in Paris, just after 16.00 on Sunday 8 April,

belle avenue du monde », the 85 lots, featuring both two and
four-wheeled vehicles, attracted great interest amongst
enthusiasts and collectors. The sale realised 2 523 923 € / 3 104
302 $ with 71% of lots selling. |
Despite daffodils in full bloom and the Spring-like temperatures
during the week before, early Saturday morning of the Goodwood
76th Members’ Meeting dawned with snow covering my car, and
those of everyone else, near and far. A quick check with the
weather forecast confirmed that more snow was predicted for the
south-coast of England and, precisely in the vicinity of where I
was heading, an old airfield outside Chichester. |

been built. |
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya played host to the seventh
running of the Espiritu de Montjuic classic race meeting, this
year in conjunction with Peter Auto. This brought a large influx of
different cars to the event, with seven of their eight classic grids
represented. Normally the weather in this part of Spain is
comfortably warm at this time of year, but this year it seemed to
be suffering from the poor weather malaise that has affected most
of Northern Europe, with a mixture of occasional weak sunshine,
mainly overcast skies and showers. |
Kimi third but Seb gets hit and finishes eighth. The Safety Car
called the shots ... This race was decided by the arrival of the
safety car and tyre strategy. Scuderia Ferrari finished on the
podium thanks to Kimi Raikkonen’s third place, but having
started from pole, Sebastian Vettel had to settle for eighth place
after Verstappen ran into him, thus dropping him down the order.
However, the German still leads the Drivers’ championship
classification. |
Day two of the Motor Legend Festival at Imola’s Autodromo Enzo
e Dino Ferrari with more than twenty cars of the special F1 Clienti
and XX Programmes activities of the Prancing Horse. Some of the
most incredible single-seaters from the last three decades lapped
at high speed the Italian circuit, including an F1-89, an F2007 and

1998. Fans at the event also had the chance to see two
examples of the F2002 car and one F2003-GA, both winners at
the San Marino GP held in Imola. |
It is end of April and this means it is time for the 27th edition of
the Tour Auto. Since the first edition year after year a large
number of Classic Cars enter Paris for the start of the biggest
Classic Car event in France organized by Peter Auto. This year
239 cars of different marques from the era of the original Tour de
France Automobiles found their way to the Grand Palais in the
heart of the French Capital for the technical inspection and to be
equipped with transponder and race number to be followed all the
way down too Nice for the finish. |
After the splendour of the show on Monday in the Grand Palais
seen by 10 000 visitors, the Tour Optic 2ooo field left Paris at
dawn for the Château de Courances where the official start of the
27th staging of the event was given. The opening leg’s
programme comprised a 461-km route that brought the crews to
the first special stage (Sinotte) and then the Dijon-Prenois circuit.
After this interlude the cars headed for the Besançon parc fermé
at the foot of the ramparts built by the Marquis de Vauban at the
end of the 17th century. |
Tour Auto 2018 ... Paris-Besançon ... British
duo Andrew Smith-James Cottingham set the
fastest time |
After the first leg used by the entrants to get the measure of their
cars and the event, the Tour Auto Optic 2ooo left Besançon and
set off for the first stage of the day named “Altitude 800” between
the Levier and Dampierre-les-Tilleuls communes. On this road
twisting its way through the Jura forest, a foretaste of the arrival of
the Tour in the Haute-Savoie in the afternoon, the two British
crews leading the overall VHC classification confirmed their
tip-top form. |
The crews headed up into the mountains in the second leg as
they crossed the Jura and then continued to climb uphill to the
Mégeve ski resort. Today they came down to the plains to
compete in the third leg, a distance of 487 kilometres. The day’s
programme included two special stages and races on the
Lédenon circuit after which they headed for the parc fermé
installed in the ramparts of Avignon. |
The Tour Auto Optic field edges ever closer to the milestone of
2000 km covered since Paris. After overnight halts in Besançon,
Megève and Avignon, the crews continued downhill to
Aix-en-Provence in the fourth leg. In keeping with the regulations
of the event the entrants in the Regularity category set off first on
two days of the rally. Thus, they were the first to enjoy the warm
welcome of the spectators massed along the route. |
The 27th Tour Auto Optic 2ooo ended on Saturday with three
special stages in the Provencal hinterland and the finish on the
Place Massena in Nice. The 239 crews that took part left the
Grand Palais in Paris five days earlier: they will take away
unforgettable memories of the route that gave them the
opportunity to discover the most beautiful roads in France. On
their journey from the French capital to Nice with stopovers in
Besançon, Megève, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence they drank in
the beauty and variety of the landscapes they crossed. |
Scuderia Ferrari dominated this whole weekend right up to a few
laps before the end and leaves Baku with second and fourth
places for Kimi and Seb respectively. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix
turned out to be a totally unpredictable race, with the Safety Car
closing down the gaps and robbing the leader Vettel of victory,
but handing Kimi a lifeline after he had started further back. |
A rather damp and chilly Silverstone circuit greeted competitors
and visitors alike for the Passione Ferrari event over the weekend
of 27-29 April, with cool temperatures and rain on the Friday and
Saturday, whilst Sunday was predominantly dry, but overcast,
with a wind dropping temperatures to not far from freezing point.

Illustrating the quality and variety of the sportscars on offer is a

that has been in current ownership for nearly half a century.
Delivered new to New York, it is one of only 39 left-hand-drive
examples built and it’s also loaded with factory options, including

Rare, fast and incredibly handsome, it answers the question of
“What could be better than the quintessential British secret agent
car?” – a open-air version of the very same. |

global interest from bidders representing 36 countries. |
For the 11th time the world famous street course in the
Principauté de Monaco became the location of one of the most
prestigious race events for classic F1 cars. Few other GP in the
calendar of the current and the past are holding the same
mystified history since William Grover-Williams won the first
edition back in 1929 on Bugatti. But what seems to be a
spectacle in modern racing becomes a challenge second to none
to the wealthy gentlemen drivers of the classic car racing scene. |
A 1948 Talbot-Lago T26 Record Sport with coachwork by
Saoutchik, which was not only the 1950 Paris Motor Show car
but also received the event's most prestigious award, the Grand
Prix du Salon, and was subsequently graced in photoshoots by
Givenchy muse, Vogue model and film actress Capucine, will be
featured. Adding further excitement to this legendary automobile
is the fact that its whereabouts had been unknown for nearly a
quarter century. Upon discovery in barn-find condition, the car
was purchased by famed Nevada collector Bob Lee. |
The Ferrari SP38, the latest offspring from Ferrari’s One-Off
programme, has been unveiled at Fiorano where, after the

celebration of the iconic British marque and realized a total of
£4,474,499 with 90% of lots sold overall. |
The Gaisberg in Salzburg / Austria is the local recreation area of
the Mozart-Town and a hike up the hill to overlook the city and
the nearby Alps is one of the favourites both for locals and
visitors, Almost 90 years ago the “Gaisbergbahn”, a cog railroad
up the hill finally was replaced by a public road built in times of
recession to bring work just as at the famous Nuerburgring in the
Eiffel. And like many other passes built during this time it was
immediately used as venue for a new hill climb and therefore
1929 saw the first storm up the hill. |
A pair of highly original Mercedes 300 SL motor cars, owned for
over fifty years by a Swedish collector, and practically unused
during that time, will star in Artcurial Motorcars’ next sale at Le
Mans Classic on 7 July. The 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL
Roadster (estimate €1,5mio – 2,0mio / $1,8mio – 2,4mio) and
the 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing (estimate €1,0mio
– 1,5mio / $1,2mio – 1,8mio) had been in storage for decades
when Gunnar Giermark died in 2011. He bought the Roadster
new in July 1963, and drove it very little. Remarkably, the mileage
stands at just over 1,380 km today! |

Concours d’Elégance affirms its desire to occupy a leading
position in the international arena. |

Porsche will be giving itself an excellent present for the 70th
anniversary of its sports cars: the 911 Speedster Concept is a

car. It forges a link between the very first Porsche 356 ‘No. 1’
Roadster, which received its operating permit on June 8, 1948,
and the Porsche cars of today. |

Scuderia Ferrari come away from the Monaco GP, finishing in
their grid positions, with Sebastian Vettel back on the podium in

RM Sotheby’s is honored to announce that it has secured a 1962
Ferrari 250 GTO, perhaps the ultimate collector car, for what is
set to be its most exciting Monterey auction offering to date.
Ferrari’s 250 GTO was effectively the final evolution of the
marque’s famous 250 model, which debuted in 1953 and ended
with the last GTOs in 1964. In total, a mere 36 examples of the
250 GTO were ever produced, all of which have survived. Widely
considered the most beautiful Ferrari design, the model was one
of the most successful road/racing cars that the marque ever
built, claiming overall victory or 1st in class in nearly 300 races
worldwide. |
1928 was the year of Alfa Romeo's first win at the Mille Miglia,
and 2018 has seen a record-breaking edition with 450 teams
competing and three Alfa Romeo cars taking the top three
places: confirmation of the brand's unbreakable bond with "the
most beautiful race in the world". Alfa Romeo therefore starred at
the event as protagonist in this prestigious milestone, as
Automotive Sponsor, and as the winner of the top prizes on Viale
Venezia in Brescia: the 2018 Mille Miglia was won by the Alfa
Romeo 6C 1500 GS Testa Fissa crewed by Tonconogy-Ruffini. |
“As an enthusiast, it is always exciting to present a car at
auction that is unknown to the collector car community,
particularly those that have not been seen, shown, or sold for
decades. It’s like being given the opportunity to go back in time,”
notes David Brynan, Senior Specialist at Gooding & Company.
“All of these cars are important, iconic postwar models in
wonderful, unrestored condition. Each has a fascinating story to
tell and a tangible connection to history that just cannot be
duplicated with a comparable restored example.” |
Lewis claims his 65th career victory at the return of the French
Grand Prix – his third of the 2018 season and 44th with
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport. An accident at the start,
duels on the track and a well thought out strategy which delivered
a third and a fifth place for Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.
Scuderia Ferrari thus made the best of what turned into a bad
situation right from the start. Seb limited the damage, with
Hamilton now heading him in the championship by 14 points. |
The 86th running of the famous “24 Heures du Mans” took place
over the weekend of 16-17 June, and, as is traditional, was
preceded by a week of build-up both at the track and in the town
centre. In addition to the main race there were a trio of support
races, one featuring “Aston Martin Racing Lemans Festival” and a
pair for the “Road to Le Mans” part of the Michelin Cup series for
LMP3 and GT3 cars. |
Under a bright sun, the competition at the Château de Coppet

in Italy) alongside the Honorary Chairman of the Jury, Ed
Gilbertson (Honorary Judge of the Pebble Beach Concours
d’Elégance in the USA). |
Ferrari offered competition-specification GT cars to customers
who demanded automobiles that were equally at home on the
road or track, starting with the Ferrari 166 MM Berlinetta of 1950.

offerings celebrating the greatest era of road and track,
dual-purpose Ferraris. |
RM Sotheby’s has announced the latest highlights for its

About one month upfront the most popular car event in Germany,
the Schloss Dyck Classic Days, the elegant water castle served
again as a picturesque background for a superb concours. For
the fourth time the Masterpieces Concours invited many
important collectors to one of the best kept secret in the classic
car calendar. Once initiated by the organizers of the crowded
Classic Days as a more private counterpart the Masterpieces are
held in a much more familiar atmosphere of likeminded
enthusiasts showing their treasured collector cars to a selected
audience following the English saying “not crowded but the right
crowd”. |
It looked like being a tough race, what with penalties and
problems at the start, but it ended with both Scuderia Ferrari men
on the podium. Kimi finishing second ahead of Seb was not
something that would have been predicted going into the race.
The result was down to the drivers of course, but also to a great
job from the team, a well planned strategy and an SF71H which
seemed particularly good at managing its tyres. |
Spa-Classic, the now traditional event held by Peter Auto on the
famous Ardennes track mid May, was long awaited by fans as
it’s one the very first event for historic racing in this northern

the « global endurance legends », where one can see
demonstration laps with modern sports and prototype cars from
the 90’s and 00’s. Among them were two Corvette C5R, a Venturi
400LM, some Ferrari 360 GT and F430 GT, a Jaguar XJR15 and
an amazing Bentley Speed 8 driven by Shaun Lynn. |

Ferrari, which sees Seb Vettel increase his lead by 7 points to 8
in the Drivers’ championship and the team extend its advantage
by 10 points to 20 in the Constructors’. Despite some neck pain
Seb secured his fourth win of the season and team-mate Kimi
Raikkonen made a good recovery following a collision shortly
after the start. The SF71H proved to be the car to beat, even if
that had not seemed the case going into this event. |

other SSJ, chassis J-567, went to Clark Gable. Gary Cooper had
a lifelong love of cars – particularly fast ones. |

he acquired the car as new in 1957, John was the reigning 500cc
Motorcycle World Champion, having won the title in 1956 riding
for Count Domenico Agusta's MV Agusta factory team. |
The most valuable lot of the sale was the exquisite ‘2 VEV,’ the
ex-Essex Racing Stable, 1961 Aston Martin ‘MP209’ DB4GT
Zagato which achieved a staggering £10,081,500, making it the
most valuable British car ever sold at European auction. It
sold in the room to a European buyer. Setting the world record
for the most valuable BMW ever sold under the hammer at
auction was the John Surtees CBE, one owner from new, 1957
BMW 507 Roadster which realised £3,809,500 against a pre-sale
estimate of £2,000,000-2,500,000. After a tense and lengthy
bidding exchange, the motor car sold in the room to a European
buyer. |
And the Trofeo BMW Group goes to: the Ferrari 335 Sport

during this period, and their most extraordinary designs were
realized for exclusive Italian manufacturers such as Ferrari,
Maserati, and Siata. The cars presented here perfectly capture
this tradition, combining thoroughbred chassis with the finest
custom coachwork. |

The number of historic racing cars that continues to increase
event after event, drivers coming from all over the world plus more
car clubs, exhibitors and activities all confirm the undeniable
growth of Le Mans Classic since its creation in 2002. This
biennial event, an exceptional mega-sized retrospective of the
history of the iconic 24-Hours race, jointly organised by Peter
Auto and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, has fired the
enthusiasm of a growing number of collectors who come to take
advantage of this unique opportunity to race on the big Le Mans
circuit. |
The 2018 edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa was the 70th
anniversary of the race, and as if to help the celebrations go
smoothly, the notoriously fickle Spa weather played its part and it
remained dry throughout the race. It had threatened to rain with a
couple of short sharp showers on the Thursday, one of which
interrupted the drivers photo shoot on the grid, but those aside,
very high (up to 37deg C) ambient temperatures were the order of
the day for the proceedings leading up to the race. One of the
most popular features of the pre-race build-up, is the drivers
parade and autograph session on the Thursday evening, when all
the competing cars drive from the circuit to the centre of Spa,
where they are parked in the main street near the casino, for the
evening, which allows the race fans to get really close to the cars
and drivers. |
New and established...This might be the slogan of the Classic
Days in Schloss Dyck between Moenchengladbach and
Düsseldorf. Situated in the urban sprawl of the river Rhine and
near the border to the Netherlands and Belgium the 3 days
festival once again attracted more than 40.000 visitors despite the
heat wave affecting most of Europe at the moment. For the
(un)lucky 13th edition the volunteers of the Classic Days Club
have set up the festival on burnt steppe-like meadows to fill the
dry dusty field with colorful highlights, many of them proven over
the years, some of them a first. |
The FIA WEC 6 Hours of Silverstone, was the Sunday afternoon
finale to a double endurance header weekend at the circuit,
having been preceded by the ELMS race on the Saturday
afternoon. In addition to the endurance races there were three
European F3 races run over the course of the weekend.
Surprisingly for a British summer weekend at Silverstone the
weather remained dry throughout, despite the occasional
ominous black cloud blowing through on a stiff breeze during the
Sunday morning. Endurance racing is certainly alive and well in
the UK, as there were over 65,000 spectators over the course of
the weekend. |
After the racing last weekend at the nearby Weathertech Laguna
Seca Raceway the Concours week is now officially under way
after today´s Concours on the Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Unlike all the other events during the week this is a free concours
attracting the masses from normal tourists coming by chance
plus those making their way from all around the world to attend
the car week. For the first time this week cars will be seen on the
Ocean Avenue but unlike the posh Pebble Beach Concours
entrants that could be seen on Thursday the Concours on the
Avenue is much more a cars&coffee meeting attracting all sorts
of cars from the small Austin Minis to the American muscle cars
in different classes |
The Monterey car week is on! After a year of waiting the
Monterey Peninsula is again in the focus of the classic car world
with countless events over ten days. Built around the annual
Concours d´Elegance at Pebble Beach the car week hosts
numerous smaller concours and gatherings ranging from the Little
Cars Show for micro cars to the exotics on Cannery Row for the
latest supercars, single marque events like the Legends of the
Autobahn to social meetings like the Quail Lodge Motorsport
Gathering. For those willing to spend some serious money
several auction houses including the top sales of Bonhams,
Gooding and RM Sotheby´s will show their offerings in the
coming days. |
The fourth round of the European Le Mans Series was held at the
Silverstone circuit on Saturday 18 August, attracting an entry of
41 cars across the three classes, with 16 in the LMP2 division,
18 in the LMP3 division and 7 in the LMGTE group. The 4 hour
race formed part of an endurance double header, preceding the
FIA WEC 6 hour race which was held on the Sunday afternoon,
providing enthusiasts with 10 hours of endurance racing over the
course of the weekend, plus practice and qualifying sessions,
together with a trio of FIA F3 European Championship races. It
would be a real test of endurance for some drivers, as no less
than fourteen of them were participating in both the ELMS and
FIA WEC races. |
The Monterey Car Week is in full swing. What started as a
concours of petrol heads decades ago became an economic
factor both for the peninsula as well as for the car business.
Thousands of visitors stream into Monterey every day and with
the weekend around the corner more and more hotels at the main
roads show “no vacancy” sign despite a heavy premium on the
prices. |
Now the Pebble Beach Concours is officially around the corner.
Today the concours cars rolled out for the first time from their
transporters located near the Gooding & Company tent for the
Tour d´Elegance down to Big Sur and back. Once arrived at 7am
the first of the two groups was already lined up 1.5 hours before
the departure and just like on Concours Sunday a few owners
could not wait to be the first in line. Being one of the main
sponsors the parade was let by Mercedes-Benz cars from the
factory museum but since Sir Stirling Moss officially retired from
any duties the rush at the front of the field was reasonable. |
As soon as the spectators joined the fun at 10 am the sun also
came through the clouds and the rest of the day was fine
weather. Since a few years the grounds of the Lodge feature two
greens on either side of the road and this year the side stage
hosted the class of the “Great Ferraris”. Always one of the most
spectacular displays the show spanned cars from the early
166MM Touring Barchetta alongside the Le Mans winning 250 TR
from the Kadoorie stable, an original 275 GTB/4 N.A.R.T. Spider,
the Pinin Prototype as well as the 500 TRC as seen on the tour
to the latest TDF models including a taylor made bare aluminium
car. |
This evening in Monterey, California, RM Sotheby’s sold the
one-off 1963 Aston Martin DP215 Grand Touring Competition
Prototype for $21,455,000 (est. $18m/22m), becoming one of the
most valuable British motor cars sold at auction. Developed
specifically to contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans, DP215 was the
pinnacle achievement for Aston Martin’s racing program. The last
competition car built during the David Brown era, the car raced at
Le Mans in 1963 with Phil Hill and Lucien Bianchi behind the
wheel, where it became the first automobile to break the 300 kph
barrier at the event. Restored with the consultation of original
designer Ted Cutting, DP215 has been reunited with its original
engine and a new correct-type gearbox, and was presented in
Monterey by enthusiastic owners Neil and Nigel Corner. |
Tonight in Monterey, California RM Sotheby’s made auction
history when a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis no. 3413GT, long
considered to be the ‘holy grail’ of the collector car world sold for
$48.4 million, becoming the most valuable car ever sold at
auction. There were cheers and applause when five-time Le Mans
winner Derek Bell stepped out of the car after driving it across the
auction block in front of an overflowing salesroom, followed by
gasps as auctioneer Maarten ten Holder opened the bidding at
the unprecedented level of $35 million. Three collectors bidding
via telephone competed for the car, sometimes moving in million
dollar increments before it hammered after nearly ten minutes for
$44 million, or $48,405,000 with fees. |
European sportscars dominated the sale and led to the smashing
of several existing world auction records. New model benchmarks
were set by the striking 1953 SIATA 208 S Spider – 1 of only 37
built – that sold for $1,655,000; the exquisite 1928 Bentley
6½-Liter Open Sports Tourer by Barker – the sole surviving
example – that was bought by an American collector for
$1,655,000; and the elegant 1948 Talbot-Lago T26 Record Sport
Coupe de Ville – with one-off coachwork by Saoutchik – that
achieved $962,000, to name but a few examples. |

weekend’s auction action was the 1935 Duesenberg SSJ, which
became the most valuable pre-war car ever sold at auction. |

The 13th edition of the Salon Privé Chubb Insurance Concours
d’Elegance was blessed with fine late summer weather
throughout and plenty of warm sunshine. For the 4th running of
the event at Blenheim Palace, the show field moved from its
previous enclosure away from the Palace right up to the terrace
fronting the columned facade of the architectural masterpiece,
with the Water Garden to the left and the Italian Garden to the
right. Apart from being a UNESCO World Heritage site, the
Palace is the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and the home of
His Grace The 12th Duke of Marlborough and his family, who is
now Patron of the event. |
The 20th Anniversary Goodwood Revival Meeting was held over
the weekend of 07 – 09 September, attracting the regular
massive crowds to the picturesque Sussex circuit for the annual
step back in time. Whereas the 2017 running had been blighted
with terrible wet weather, the sun shone virtually continuously on
the anniversary event, with very pleasant ambient temperatures.
The occasional grey cloud drifted through, fortunately with no
precipitation, although rain did fall quite heavily only a few miles
away on the Friday. |

the racing team. A rare 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT previously
owned by famed actor Peter Sellers has already been announced
for the London auction, which will be held at Battersea Evolution. |

was just the prelude for the International Bugatti Meeting to take
place the following week in the New York area. Every year one of
the numerous national Bugatti clubs is entrusted to host the
International Meeting and after several editions in Europe it was
finally time again to head overseas. As the last USA tour being
held on the west coast this year the transition period between
summer and fall was chosen for the meeting in Saratoga Springs
located in the middle-east of the state New York |

didn’t suffer from the torrential rain and storms that some parts of
Italy were experiencing that weekend. |
The annual prelude to the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run,
the Regent Street Motor Show presented by title partner Illinois

silence on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. If it
hadn’t been for their valiant efforts and sacrifices, it is unlikely
that many of the vehicles in the show would exist today. |

Ferrari and Formula 1, few terms are linked more than the famous
Scuderia and the top category of open wheel racing. Although
now waiting for more than a decade to bring back a title to
Maranello the Scuderia Ferrari is still the most successful team
in the History of F1 and Ferrari is the only team to run every
season since the series was introduced in 1950. Being the team
principle of the Scuderia Ferrari that ran the works entries for Alfa
Romeo in the 1930s Enzo Ferrari early on saw the importance of
the GP series aside the sports car world championship to
position his marque as the leading sport car manufacturer that it
should become over the next decades. |

the subdued conditions in the collector car market,” says
Kenneth Ahn, President, RM Sotheby’s. “RM Sotheby’s

house by total sales and saw strong activity in the high end of the
market, as we sold 68 collector cars for over $1 million each, for
a combined value of more than $222 million (approx. 52 percent
of our total sales); we also maintained our position as number
one auction house in $1 million+ cars by both total sales and the
number of cars sold. |

Schumacher, which will open on the occasion of his 50th birthday
on 3 January 2019. It is intended both as a celebration and a
mark of gratitude to the most successful Prancing Horse driver
ever. Schumacher has a special place in Ferrari’s history, which
has been marked by his many records. Between 1996 and 2006
the German champion won five consecutive Drivers’ titles, from
2000 to 2004, and made a major contribution to the Scuderia’s
haul of six Manufacturers’ titles over those years. |

cars as the rare and prominent 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, the

finest examples of Ferrari’s great road cars in the 250 GT Lusso
and 330 GTC.” |
An extremely rare 1987 Ferrari F40 LM leads the Italian marque
entries. Upon entering production, the Ferrari F40 was already
the fastest road car of its time, but the ‘Le Mans’ version took the
model to new extremes – affording the car more aggressive
bodywork, more extreme front and rear wings, larger disc brakes
and calipers, revised suspension, a race-spec gearbox and a
stripped-out interior with a futuristic digital dashboard. Chassis
no. 74045 was originally used as a prototype car while the F40
was designed. |

This time of the year, at the end of the season with the next one
just around the corner it is time to look back over the year and
the events one did attend. It is also the time to see what did not
make it online in time due to a packed schedule but could well
serve to get over the cold days until the classic cars are back on
the road for new adventures. |
