last unrestored 300S Roadsters – will line up with a parade of
concours-standard restorations at The Scottsdale Auction,
Bonhams motor cars’ season-opener staged at the Westin
Kierland Resort, on January 27 at 10am MST. The sleeping

roadster variants of the post-war flagship model produced. This
coveted motorcar has spent many decades of its later life off
the road and is offered as an exciting restoration project with an
estimate of $375,000 – 475,000. |
RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to add an incredible selection of
Ferraris to the already outstanding lots going under the
hammer in Arizona on 27 January. Few road-going Ferraris of
the 1970s are more coveted than the 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4
Daytona Spider by Scaglietti. The 31st of just 121 examples
built, this is a wonderful example of Maranello’s celebrated
spider. Once owned by a famous Hollywood director, the car

as a class for GT3 cars with Pro-Am lineups. |
After almost 2 years of deprivations 2022 starts again with the
annual Ferrari events of the Cavallino Classic in Florida. Last year
was postponed to April due to the pandemic and so the premiere
edition of the new organisation of Canossa Events who took over
the show just a few months before was only a transition year and
the 30rd Cavallino Classic was basically still organized by the old
team. Now in 2022 the first changes of the new format came into
play that are set to bring the classics into the future attracting not
only those who attend the event for years but also a new and
younger public. |
Yesterday fell the final curtain on the first Cavallino Classic
organized by Canossa Events. Some news was introduced
including a new logo and new awards but the major things did not
change. After the great solo Ferrari concours at the Breakers the
Cavallino Classics went back to Mar-a-Lago for the multi-marque
gathering at the famous country club in Palm Beach. After the
transition in the last year and the difficult organization in the
middle of a pandemic with the postponed classics finally
Mar-a-Lago was back on the program. |

in the automotive sector. |
There are two special cars that stand out among the many

driver Ernst Schuster, who has owned them for nearly 40 years. |

impressive sell-through rate of 95%. Offered from a prominent

Establishing a record price for a 300 SL Gullwing offered
publicly at auction, the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy

and in the ultimate specification, the Alloy Gullwing is
considered one of the most desirable road-going models of the
marque. This particular car was one of very few to retain its
numbers-matching 3.0-liter NSL engine and original alloy body. |

Building on last year’s inaugural online-only auction, the
company hosted an exclusive viewing of all of the lots in
Scottsdale, Arizona, allowing registered bidders and press
members the opportunity to experience the robust variety of
vehicles in person during the online sale. The company reported a
sales total of $6,962,450 for the week, with an 88% sell-through
rate from 50 of 57 lots sold and an average price of $139,249 per
lot sold. |
The 60th edition of the Daytona 24 Hours went down to the wire
with the Ferrari of Risi Competizione second in the GTD-Pro
class and a 4th place finish in GTD for AF Corse. The first
round of the IMSA SportsCar Championship, run in perfect
weather conditions but with very cold temperatures, provided a
thrilling spectacle from green flag to chequered flag, although
there were also phases of Full Course Yellow. The Ferraris
competing in Florida, after a less-than-perfect qualifying
session in last weekend’s Roar before 24, proved themselves
up to the challenge of this iconic endurance marathon. |
"This latest selection of consignments to Amelia Island will be
exciting from a market standpoint, as many of these cars come
to auction for the very first time,” said Gooding & Company
Senior Specialist, David Brynan. "These are all high-quality,
unique cars, representing some of the most iconic and
sought-after models from marques like Porsche, BMW, and
Ferrari. Several models, like the OSCA MT4 and Porsche 904/6,
are rarely offered for public sale and yet, they are exactly the
type of cars that today's collectors are looking for – event-eligible
sports cars that are both thrilling to drive and historically
important.” |
With the backdrop of an illuminated Eiffel Tower, a 2014 Ferrari
LaFerrari lit up yesterday’s Bonhams auction in the Grand

The highlight of the night was The Petitjean Collection ‘Part II’,

1959 to 1989. The collection of Marcel Petitjean represents one
man’s passion and dedication to building a fine collection of
cars. All lots were vigorously contested, and it was the 1985
Ferrari 288 GTO, one of the ultimate supercars of its era,
which sold for €3,464,375, establishing a record for the model
and topping the entire sale. |
Alessandro Pier Guidi and Côme Ledogar claimed the drivers’

with their second place in the 9 Hours of Kyalami. The series
organised by SRO features the toughest endurance races for

national and international championships. |

1958, and which is known to have been one of the driver’s
favourite cars. The bond that Fangio had forged with
Mercedes-Benz was such that the 300 SL Roadster was
delivered in time for his 47th birthday, received at The
Dorchester Hotel in London, marking his phenomenal

One of the most important Porsche models ever produced will
headline Bonhams Amelia Island Sale on March 3 in Florida,
being offered after 50 years of ownership and displayed publicly
for the first time since the early 2000s. The Porsche 550 Spyder
was a seminal model for the manufacturer, as its first genuine
racing car design. Considered one of the most important racing
cars in history, the 550 garnered success in the period’s most
challenging international sports car and endurance races
including the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race and the Mille
Miglia. The 1500cc engined Spyder earned itself the ‘giant-killer’
soubriquet, as it claimed victory over larger-engined rivals. |

World Championship, was presented online this afternoon at the
Gestione Sportiva in Maranello. The car is the 68th that the
company has built to compete in motor racing’s blue riband
category. It features a brand new shade of red, especially
developed by the Ferrari Style Centre, while its name reflects the

Motorcars is proud to present a new collection of eight sports

Racing in the Pro-Am class. However, despite this, the Swiss
team didn’t claim the title. Robert Ziemian, Francesco Zollo and
Axcil Jefferies drove a faultless race to finish ahead of SPS
Automotive’s Mercedes, which, as the first of the two cars to
win a race, took the title despite a points tie. |
The 2022 Formula 1 season has begun with three days of testing,
running up until this Friday at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit.
Shortly after 9 o’clock, it fell to Charles Leclerc to steer the F1-75
out on track for its debut in an official session. The Monegasque
completed 80 laps, running the C2, C3 and C4 compound tyres,
getting through the planned pre-lunch break programme. Charles’
best time of 1’20”165 was set on C3 tyres. |
The second day of the first pre-season test at the
Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit saw Scuderia Ferrari complete a
further 150 laps with the F1-75. Once again both drivers got a turn
at the wheel, with Carlos Sainz going first, before Charles Leclerc
took over after the lunch break. As was the case yesterday, a
key objective was for the drivers to continue to familiarise
themselves with the new car, while also enabling the pit stop
crew to get used to dealing with the new 18 inch tyres introduced
this season by Pirelli. Carlos and Charles also began to work on
fine tuning the car, running various set-ups |

world’s finest vehicles at the Golf Club of Amelia Island and the
Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. Central to the weekend’s festivities
was the celebration of The Amelia’s 2022 honoree: accomplished

The livery chosen for the Ferraris is inspired by last year’s.
However, it comes with some extra graphics that accentuate the
vehicle’s dynamic character and emphasise the theme dominated
by the Italian “tricolore” flag, which starts from the aggressive
front end and spans the entire car. The 488 GTE will also feature
the logo celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Maranello brand. |
On 12 March 1947, Enzo Ferrari started up the Ferrari 125 S, the
first car to bear his name. The Ferrari that crossed the Maranello
gates in 1947 was more than a new car, it was a declaration of
intent, and the beginning of a 75-year culture of excellence built
on craftsmanship, dedication, tradition and innovation. It is a
culture that has created a stream of automotive masterpieces,
each destined to transcend time. |
A few days before the official start of Season 10 of the FIA World
Endurance Championship, the two-day prologue at the Sebring
track concluded after four valuable sessions to test the cars
ahead of Friday’s race. Two 488 GTEs competed in the LMGTE
Pro class and five in the LMGTE Am on the 6,019-metre Florida
circuit. |
Ferrari will be looking to build on its impressive legacy in one of
America’s premier endurance events with a three-car entry in
Saturday’s 70th anniversary of the Twelve Hours of Sebring at
Sebring International Raceway. Ferrari has 12 overall victories

Ferrari’s future on the GT racing scene takes shape and develops
around the volumes of the 296 GTB, redefining it according to
track and performance requirements and giving life to the 296
GT3. This model takes up the legacy of the 488 GT3 which, in its
standard and Evo 2020 configurations, has picked up 107 titles
from its debut race to date, with 429 wins from 770 starts. These
extraordinary figures make it the most successful car in Prancing
Horse history. |
Sebring International Raceway will host the first act of the FIA
World Endurance Championship season, with the Ferraris lining
up to defend their drivers’ and constructors’ titles in the LMGTE
Pro class and the drivers’ and teams’ ones (with AF Corse) in the
LMGTE Am. The first of the six legs on the World Championship
calendar is steeped in history. The unevenness of the asphalt on
the Florida track, the site of a training airfield during the Second
World War, also makes it difficult to set up the cars. |
A new era for Formula 1 gets underway in Bahrain. Less than a
week ago, pre-season testing came to an end at the same Sakhir
track, just six days for the teams to get to grips with this year’s
new generation of cars. Among the many changes to the
regulations, a return to ground effect, Pirelli’s larger 18 inch tyres,
the use of E10 eco-fuel and an increase in the car’s minimum
weight. Scuderia Ferrari completed almost 4000 kilometres of
testing with the F1-75, more than any other team and Carlos
Sainz and Charles Leclerc were favourably impressed. |
The two letters SL are the world-famous hallmark and distinction
of a unique Mercedes-Benz sports car tradition: for 70 years, the
abbreviation has stood for “super-light” and thus for sporty
motoring – from the 300 SL racing sports car (W 194) from 1952
to the latest SL in the 232 model series from the sports car and
performance brand Mercedes-AMG. The forefather W 194
remains reserved for motorsport, but in doing so it conveys an
important Mercedes-Benz brand value: as the oldest luxury car
manufacturer in the world, the brand has been involved in
motorsport for many eras – and has been highly successful. |
The Porsche GT Team has locked out the first grid row with the
two 911 RSR for the season-opening round of the FIA World

for the 1,000-mile race on the Sebring International Raceway in
the US state of Florida. The ca. 378 kW (515 PS) Porsche 911
RSR remains unbeaten after topping the timesheets in a WEC
final qualifying session for the tenth time in a row. |
The Porsche 911 GT3 R showed its full strength in qualifying for
the 12 Hours of Sebring. At the wheel of the No. 16 car fielded by
the customer team Wright Motorsports, Zacharie Robichon
turned the fastest lap in the GTD class. For the race, the
Canadian shares driving duties in the nine-eleven with Jan Heylen
from Belgium and Ryan Hardwick from the USA. In January, the
trio had won the 24 Hours of Daytona with Porsche works driver
Richard Lietz (Austria) and thus took the lead of the
championship. |
The Monegasque Supercar Collection (lots 161 - 168),
featuring a stunning line-up of one-owner, low-mileage Ferrari
supercars attracted huge interest with a large number of
bidders in the room and on the telephone, resulting in some
record prices. The collection made over 13 million euros with all
eight cars selling. The 1968 factory Porsche 907 (lot 203)
achieved the highest price in today’s sale, changing hands for 4
390 400 € including premium. This important competition car
with superb provenance, including three participations at Le
Mans had been in the same ownership for the last 40 years. |
The Porsche GT Team has kicked off the new season of the FIA
World Endurance Championship (WEC) with a victory at the
Sebring International Raceway. Michael Christensen from
Denmark and Frenchman Kévin Estre won the GTE-Pro class at
the 1,000-mile race in the US state of Florida ahead of the
Corvette crewed by Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and American
Tommy Milner. Richard Lietz from Austria and Italy’s Gianmaria
Bruni finished third with their ca. 378 kW (515 PS) 911 RSR. |

Scuderia Ferrari’s 2022 season has got off to the best possible
start, with Charles Leclerc leading team-mate Carlos Sainz
across the line to record the team’s 85th one-two finish in
Formula 1. This was the Maranello squad’s 239th win and
Charles’ third after those in Belgium and Italy in 2019. He drove a
perfect race, securing the first hat trick of his career, namely pole
position, fastest race lap and the win. Carlos took the chequered
flag in second place to record his fifth podium with the Scuderia,
his seventh in total in Formula 1. |
On 16 to 20 March 2022, two years after the last edition of the
Rétromobile Salon, Artcurial Motorcars returned to the show
with a new tribute to the Collectors’ Car, displaying over 170
vehicles on their stand, spread over more than half a hectare.
The auction format was different this year, and in place of the
drive-through, there were videos and live streaming shown
throughout the sale. The Artcurial team spoke from the
rostrum, and also on camera, walking round the cars, the
specialists Antoine Mahé and Benjamin Arnaud with
microphone in hand, turning the sale into a real show. |
Scuderia Ferrari leaves Saudi Arabia after both its drivers finished
on the podium, in second and third place, thus consolidating its
lead in the Constructors’ championship and with Charles Leclerc
and Carlos Sainz heading the Drivers’ classification. At the
Jeddah Corniche circuit, the F1-75 proved to be reliable and a
front runner. |
Organized in association with the "Friends of the Circuit
d'Avignon Vaucluse" (ACAV), who had been behind the "Grands
Prix d'Avignon Vaucluse" and the long-running Avignon Motor
show, and supported by French Federation of Vintage Vehicles
(FFVE), the “Motor Passion” show is the largest of its kind in the
south of France. |
The second places for AF Corse in the Gold and Pro-Am
classes, respectively with Delacour-Sbirrazzuoli-Balzan and
Bertolini-Machiels-Costantini, marked a positive first round of the
GT World Challenge Powered by AWS held at Imola. |
When the motorcar was invented more than 125 years ago soon
people found a way to compete with each other. In the beginning
the cars were tested on long distance drives on the reliability in
the new technology but sooner or later it became the question
who is simply the fastest on a given distance. In the beginning
those races were held on public roads until purpose-built race
tracks or hill climbs took over. Until the late 1950s some of the
most exciting races held on the public road until crashes like the
1957 Mille Miglia fatality took this era to an end. |
Scuderia Ferrari has won the Australian Grand Prix for a tenth
time. Charles Leclerc represented the Maranello marque on the
top step of the podium, taking his second win of the season, his
fourth with Ferrari, putting him level with Eddie Irvine, Clay
Regazzoni and John Surtees. Leclerc led all 58 laps around
Albert Park, also setting the race fastest lap, thus taking his first
ever “Grand Chelem.” |
“The right crowd but not crowded”, this might be the one
expression that fits the Goodwood Members Meeting. The
Goodwood Road Racing Club has three major events during the
year and each of them is unique in its own right. The oldest of
them is the Festival of Speed going up the hill at Goodwood
house, this is together with the British F1 GP the largest motor
sport event in the UK. It is dedicated to everything fast and loud
on two and four wheels and also includes a replacement for the
British Motor show as it features all the manufacturers on display
in the large infield. |
A 1964 Aston Martin DB5 Sports Saloon, offered from more
than 50 years’ ownership, raced past its pre-sale top estimate
of £350,000 to sell for the princely sum of half-a-milion
(£506,000). The Sixties sportscar was the most valuable lot of
yesterday’s Bonhams Goodwood Members MeetingSale, which
enjoyed smooth sailing, achieving a total just shy of £7 million,
with an impressive sell-through rate of 90%. |
Maiden victory for Rinaldi Racing in the European Le Mans
Series, in a race that produced a surprise ending which granted
Pierre Ehret, Nicolas Varrone and Memo Gidley the highest step
of the podium in the opening round of the European Le Mans
Series. |
The two days of testing of the Ferrari 296 GT3 at the Fiorano
track have ended. The new Prancing Horse GT racing car has
clocked up its first kilometres, providing helpful feedback to the
technicians and engineers. The day’s programme ran
smoothly, with runs of just a few laps alternating with longer
sequences interspersed with the usual pit stop checks.
Two-time world champion Alessandro Pier Guidi and Andrea
Bertolini were again at the wheel for the day. |
The 296 GTS, the latest evolution of Maranello’s mid-rear-engined
two-seater berlinetta spider, premiered 2022 April 19. The 296
GTS flanks the 296 GTB in redefining the whole concept of fun
behind the wheel, guaranteeing pure emotions not just when
pushing the car to its limits, but also in day-to-day driving
situations. |
After the huge success of the 2021 edition, the Stella Alpina is
once again taking to the spectacular roads in Trentino for a
unique and inimitable experience behind the wheel. The event
is organised jointly by Scuderia Trentina and Canossa, and will
take place from June 3 to 5, 2022. |
The programme for the 2022 edition has been updated with a
route taking the crews across some of the most exciting
mountain passes in the Alps. |
The Goodwood Members’ Meeting returned to its regular April
date after last year’s postponement to October due to the
pandemic situation. The whole weekend was bathed in virtually
constant spring sunshine, although a breeze kept overall ambient
temperatures down, but it was still pleasantly warm. The
spring-like atmosphere was enhanced by “A host, of golden
daffodils; … fluttering and dancing in the breeze” (to plagiarise
part of the poem by William Wordsworth), which lined various
parts of the track, and were also predominant as part of the
hospitality areas decor. |
Ferrari continued its domination of the Am class in GT World
Challenge America powered by AWS competition on Sunday,
completing the Sonoma Raceway opening weekend with a
second-consecutive 1-2 finish. AF Corse scored a weekend
sweep with Conrad Grunewald and Jean-Claude Saada
in the No. 61 Cambridge Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020, giving the
defending championship team 14 victories in the last 15 races. |
Salon Privé’s inaugural “Concours de Vente” took place in the
grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea between the 21-23 April
2022, offering a new take on the concours theme, in that all the
cars on display were from dealers and available to purchase at or
after the event. The Royal Hospital Chelsea was founded in 1692,
“hospital” being the old term for almshouses, as a retirement
home for those that had served in the British Army, and is
famous for its Chelsea Pensioners in their red tunics, and also for
being the venue for the annual Chelsea flower Show. |
Finally, we are back in Paris in April for this year’s Tour Auto.
After the last summer edition, the tour through the French
countryside went back to its usual date in April when Paris is
surrounded by the yellow rape fields that should become our
background for the next days. 231 cars were entered at this
year’s edition and as the Grand Palais is still not finished after its
renovation the cars were lined up in the parc d´exposition that
hosted the Retromobile earlier in March. |
RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to add what is surely one of the most
significant of all ‘50s sports racing Ferraris to the Monaco sale
lineup. The stunning 1953 Ferrari 340 MM Spider by Vignale
is one of only four surviving 340 MM Vignale Spiders, and the
Monaco sale will be the first time such a car has been publicly
offered in a decade, making this a tantalisingly rare opportunity
for collectors. |
C´est parti! The 2022 edition of the Tour Auto is on its way from
Paris to Andorra. At 6 am the first cars left Paris from the Parc
d´Exposition to Rambouillet where the official start of the TA is
this year. Due to the unforeseeable traffic in the capitol the start
of the time keeping is never in Paris itself but in one of the
chateaux in the outskirts of the métropole. But as there is still a
long day ahead the first cars always have to leave very early and
they see the sunset usually on their way. |
After the Tour Auto took off yesterday the French classic now is
in full swing as the cars and the drivers are settling in and
become more and more sorted. After the first leg driving towards
Le Mans and the finish at the Atlantic coast in La Baule the tour
left the coastal city this morning no later than 6:30 am when the
first car was on its way before the sun was out. Unfortunately, the
morning leg again led to the bigger country road and motorways
to get to the destination of the first special stage of the day. |
We arrived in the capitol of French wine and if you ask French
wine lovers probably the wine capitol of the world. Most likely
most of the drivers and their co-pilots could enjoy one or a few
more glasses of red wine during the dinner to conclude an
intense day. Today was one of the days without a track visit but
no less than three special stages on closed off roads. As there
are specialists for both sorts of competition this is the day for the
rally driver rather than the racer. |
We are almost there... we just finished the fourth and second to
last day on our way through France starting in Paris and ending
in Andorra tomorrow. Up to now we drove 8 special stages (of
which on was cancelled as reported yesterday) and 3 circuits.
We have a close competition running in between the Ligier of Mr.
John of B and the Ford Escort of Kevin Jones with the Ferrari 365
GTB of the Team Lancksweert and the Porsche SC Group.4 of
Jean not far behind. As reported earlier the lead is changing
regularly depending whether we are on the track or in the wild on
the special stages. |
Who said the French were anti-car? Not us! During the 31st
edition of the Tour Auto spectators once again proved that they
love beautiful cars. Smiling faces and encouragements were the
key-words during these five days spent driving through sublime
landscapes between bucolic roads, mountains and vineyards.
Spectators flocked to the side of our beautiful French roads, to
the public zones, the special stages on closed roads and to the
grandstands at the circuits as they came to admire the collector
cars and support drivers and co-drivers. |
The Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe sprint races at Brands
Hatch over the weekend of 30 April – 01 May, were the only
international GT or Sports Racing series races to be held in Great
Britain in 2020. Thus they were the only opportunity for British
fans to see an international series on home soil. There was the
added attraction of being able to see the immensely popular
multiple motorcycle world champion, Valentino Rossi, racing in a
Team WRT Audi R8 LMS, naturally sporting a bright yellow and
black livery and carrying his famous 46 race number. |
Scuderia Ferrari leaves Imola after the Made in Italy e
dell’Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix with a sense of what might have
been. The team only picked up 20 points at the Enzo e Dino
Ferrari circuit: 12 yesterday in the Sprint and eight today
courtesy of a sixth place for Charles Leclerc. Charles saw his
podium chances vanish with just over 10 laps remaining when
lying third, after he spun at the Variante Gresini. It was a Sunday
to forget for Carlos Sainz, who ended up stuck in the gravel at
turn 2, following a coming together with Daniel Ricciardo. |
The Ferrari SP48 Unica, the latest addition to the Prancing
Horse’s One-Off series, was unveiled today and joins the most
exclusive group in Maranello’s entire production: unique,
absolutely bespoke cars crafted to the specifications of a single
client and designed as a clear expression of their own individual
requirements. |
The World Endurance Championship will be back on the track
this weekend in Belgium for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps,
the second round of FIA WEC Season 10. Once again, there will
be two 488 GTEs in the LMGTE Pro class and five in the LMGTE
Am class. |
In the maiden Miami Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari got both its
drivers onto the podium, with Charles Leclerc in second place
and Carlos Sainz third. As expected, the race turned out to be a
very close fight with the Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and
Sergio Perez. It confirmed that the two teams fighting for the win
at every race so far, are very closely matched. The Scuderia
picked up 33 points today to keep the lead in the Constructors’
classification while Charles heads the Drivers’ standings. |
World champions Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado
won the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, round two of the FIA
World Endurance Championship, while teammates Miguel
Molina and Antonio Fuoco took the third step of the podium. |
A rare Porsche 959 supercar; an iconic Mercedes-Benz 300
SL and a Jaguar E-Type sprinkled with McQueen stardust
are just a few of Bonhams’ trump cards when the auction house
stages the 30th anniversary edition of its prestigious Monaco
Sale: Les Grandes Marques à Monaco on Friday (13 May)
during the weekend of the 13th Monaco Historic Grand Prix. |
World champions Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado

Cavallino Classic Modena, riding high following the huge success
of last year’s event, is back on 29-31 May for its second edition. |
After Rinaldi Racing’s win, a Ferrari is back on the ELMS podium
at the 4 Hours of Imola, round two of the European Le Mans
Series. Revelling in the result are the trio
Kimura-Schandorff-Jensen.It was a track not conducive to teams
equipped with Maranello machinery, who struggled to fully exploit
the potential of their 488 GTEs. Any fears that the seven Ferrari
entries may have had prior to the race were confirmed in the final
finishing positions, with the cars effectively out of the running for
the race victory. |
You could feel the energy in the packed room as all eyes fell
on the pair of stunning Formula One cars offered from the
private collection of former World Champion Nigel Mansell. It is
an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire two completely original
Formula One cars directly from their World Champion owner
and driver and, as expected, both machines found delighted
new owners. Selling for €1 million over the high estimate, the
iconic ‘Senna Taxi’ 1991 Williams FW14 was the undoubted
star of the show with a final sale price of €4,055,000 after a
heated bidding battle. Equally as stunning and historic, Nigel
Mansell’s 1989 Ferrari 640 crossed the block at €3,605,000. |
A 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé from
1955 has been sold at auction for a record price of
€135,000,000 to a private collector. The car, which is one of
two created in 1955, has always been regarded as one of the
great jewels of motoring history, but few ever imagined that it
would be offered for sale. One of just two prototypes built by
the Mercedes-Benz racing department, the car is named after
its creator and chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, and is
considered to be one of the finest examples of automotive
engineering and design, often cited as being ‘the most beautiful
car in the world’ by automotive experts and enthusiasts
worldwide. |

The curtain has just fallen on the second edition of the Cavallino
Classic Modena, an event packed with splendid Ferraris and
fantastic food, all perfectly set off by a beautiful location. |
Following the success of its record-setting Passion of a
Lifetime sale and the establishment of a long-term sponsorship
of the Concours of Elegance, Gooding & Company will return to
the grounds of Hampton Court Palace to conduct its London
Auction, featuring beloved motoring icons from the greatest
English and European marques. The auction will take place on
3 September 2022 in conjunction with the Concours of
Elegance, where the firm will serve as the official auction house
of the weekend. |
The Iron Lynx Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020s pulled off an
extraordinary one-two in the 1000 km of Paul Ricard, the second
round of the Endurance Cup of the GT World Challenge Europe
powered by AWS. The victory of Antonio Fuoco, Davide Rigon
and Daniel Serra, and the second place for Miguel Molina, James
Calado and Nicklas Nielsen, were complemented by podiums in
the Gold Cup and the Pro-Am class for the Iron Dames and AF
Corse, making it a weekend to remember. The winners also took
the lead in the standings. |
Third triumph in four races for the AF Corse-run 488 GT3 Evo
2020 crewed by the Jean-De Pauw duo in the GT World
Challenge Europe powered by AWS Silver Cup. On the Magny
Cours track, the pairing confirmed themselves to be the true
revelation of the championship. In the Pro-Am class, a third and a
second place are the spoils that the Piacenza-based team takes
home from the French circuit thanks to the Delacour-Sbirrazzuoli
crew. |
A 1929 Bentley 4½ Liter Tourer led the live sale return of
Bonhams annual Greenwich Auction on Sunday, June 5.
Making its auction debut, this former race car, which has been
extensively toured, sold for $604,500, attracting numerous
bidders. The sale was an overall success achieving an impressive
94% sell-through rate and a total of more than $5,920,556. |
80 Ferrari Monzas from more than twenty nations will take part
in the first edition of Cavalcade Icona, an exclusive event open
only to these limited series vehicles inspired by evocative
masterpieces in the history of the Prancing Horse. |
The Cavalcade will bring together such a large collection of the
two models for the first time. Unveiled in 2018, the Monza SP1
and SP2 are the forerunners of the “Icona” line which celebrates
Ferrari’s tradition with timeless design, reinterpreted in line with
the most innovative technologies and materials. |
In the thirty-minute Hyperpole, the “restricted” challenge for pole
position, introduced in 2020, the six Ferraris involved
monopolised the front row in the LMGTE Am class, with Vincent
Abril achieving the Maranello marque’s second ever Hyperpole
after Luzich Racing’s win just two years ago. James Calado and
Antonio Fuoco took to the track behind the wheel of AF Corse’s
number 51 and 52 488 GTEs, both covering five laps of the
French circuit. |
A Formula 1 survivor from the 1990s – a 1993 Benetton-Ford
Formula 1 Racing Single-Seater, driven in period by two
Grand Prix winning drivers, Riccardo Patrese and the
seven-times Formula 1 World Champion Michael
Schumacher, is in pole position for the Bonhams Festival of
Speed Sale at Goodwood on Friday 24 June. This rare jewel
of the auction saleroom – one of only two Benetton B193B
Formula 1 cars running in the world - contested five races in the
1993 Formula 1 season with Patrese at the wheel. |
After dominating the second half of the Six Hours of The Glen,
Ferrari came up less than five minutes short of a GTD Pro
class victory in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship
competition on Sunday. Making its first visit to The Glen in six
years, Risi Competizione was forced from the lead to pit lane
for a quick splash of fuel for the No. 62 Pennzoil Ferrari 488
GT3 Evo 2020 co-driven by David Rigon and Daniel Serra
with just over four minutes remaining in the race. The duo had
gained enough ground to still cross the line in second place
after numerous post-race penalties were applied due to
drive-time infractions from other competitors. |
A route linking Italy and France for Ferrari’s international
clientele to discover while driving the company’s models. Iconic
locations on the Côte d’Azur and the Riviera di Ponente, Alpine
passes and exclusive resorts, famous landscapes but also
lesser-known spots to be discovered and explored. |
The Mille Miglia is without doubt one of the most prestigious
and best-known classic car rallyes and well know above the
borders of Italy. Originally ran from 1927-1957 the long-distance
road race was part of the sportscar world championship and
both cemented the myth of Alfa Romeo before the war and
Ferrari after, both with most of the victories in their period. After
Sir Stirling Moss setting the eternal record in the
Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR in 1955 accompanied by Denis
“Jenks” Jenkinson and the final edition in 1957 once again won
by Ferrari with the 315S in the hands of Pierro Taruffi the
engines remained silent for 20 years before a revival of
enthusiasts came back to do a revival in 1977 |
At the wheel of the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR, the trio set a new
distance record for GTE vehicles: 4,769 kilometres. The sister car
driven by Kévin Estre (France), Michael Christensen (Denmark)
and Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium) wrapped up the 90th edition of
the long-distance classic in fourth place. In the GTE-Am
category, the Porsche customer team WeatherTech Racing from
finished the race on the podium. |
A strongly passionate enthusiast, William M. Wonder was a
racer at heart, and dedicated over 50 years to his craft, partaking
in some of the most legendary American races, including
Sebring, Daytona, and Bridgehampton, and he raced in FIA,
SCCA, Trans Am, and Can-Am events. Throughout his robust
driving career, Mr. Wonder participated in over 75 races, working
and acquainting himself with some of motor sport’s greatest
names, including A.J. Foyt, Juan Manuel Fangio, Carroll Shelby,
and Ken Miles. During this time, Mr. Wonder raced some of the
most famous and diverse cars, including MG competition cars
and the Ford GT40. |
To mark the 10th edition of Le Mans Classic, Artcurial Motorcars
returns to present some 189 exceptional lots on Saturday 2 July
2022, at 11:00h for Automobilia and Motorcycles and 13:30h for
Collectors’ Cars. |
All race long, Carlos put race leader Max Verstappen under
pressure with both his pace and strategy, with the team opting to
try a different approach at the second Virtual Safety Car and in
the closing stages following the Safety Car triggered by Yuki
Tsunoda. It resulted in Carlos managing to attack the Dutchman
a couple of times on his way to an eleventh Formula 1 podium,
his ninth with Ferrari. |
The Italian DTM weekend finished empty-handed for the Red
Bull Alphatauri AF Corse Ferraris, once again forced to deal
with unfortunate incidents that ruled them out of the fight for
victory. This time the 488 GT3 Evo 2020s were more
competitive in qualifying, with Fraga on the front row and
Cassidy on the third. At the start, both cars passed the trap of
the Tamburello chicane unscathed, and the Brazilian took the
race lead on lap two, just before the Safety Car came into
action following an accident at Rivazza. |
The 90th running of the Le Mans 24 Hour Race took place over
the weekend of 11-12 June, under almost perfect weather
conditions, with ambient temperatures in the mid twenties. This
was great for the race fans, after many having had to forsake the
event for the past two years due to Covid restrictions, with over
244,000 attendees descending on the Circuit de La Sarthe over
the course of the weekend. Although the 24 Hour Race is the
main attraction, it is the culmination of a week of activities, not
only at the circuit, but in both the town of Le Mans, where
scrutineering and the driver’s parade takes place, and in the
surrounding district. |
An Aston Martin which featured in No Time to Die, the
latest film in the James Bond series will have a leading role in

Rover Defender specially built for the 2015 Bond film
Spectre. The 2019 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupé,
estimate £400,000 – 500,000, was driven on screen in No

swing this year after selling out quicker than ever. Spectacular
vehicles, drivers, partners and exhibitors were present at
motorsport’s ultimate summer garden party for its 29th year,
celebrating the world of motoring, technology and future
mobility. In an exciting turn of events, the outright hill record
was broken by the McMurty Spéirling, driven by Max Chilton on
the Sunday in a thrilling 39.08 seconds. |

At his 150th attempt, Carlos Sainz is a winner in Formula 1, first
past the chequered flag in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in
his F1-75. For Scuderia Ferrari it’s the third victory of the season
and its 241st overall. Carlos is thus the 40th driver to win for
Ferrari, the second Spaniard after Fernando Alonso. He brings
the total number of drivers who have won a world championship
Grand Prix to 112. It has been an almost perfect weekend for
Sainz, after he took pole yesterday. Charles Leclerc drove an
aggressive race, featuring several duels on his way to a fourth
place finish |
A ‘Holy’ Trinity of some of the most desirable early Ferraris,
comprising the very last 250 Europa built, a 166 Inter

appearance together, all offered at the Silver Anniversary
Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction in California on August 19. |
In a race punctuated by crashes and Safety Car entries, the
two Red Bull Alphatauri AF Corse-run Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo
2020s were forced to withdraw early at the Norisring, once
again postponing their date with victory in the DTM. On a circuit
that clearly does not bring much luck for Maranello machinery,
qualifying had however produced an excellent third place for
Ayhancan Guven and twelfth for Felipe Fraga. |
A win-filled weekend and the first major GT championship title
of the season for Prancing Horse with the victory laurels
clinched by Pierre Alexandre Jean and Ulysse de Pauw in the

What happened this morning at the Fiorano circuit will go down
in history. At 9:37 am, after a series of preparatory checks,
two-time world endurance champion Alessandro Pier Guidi fired
up the engine of the new Ferrari Le Mans Hypercar (LMH),
which the Maranello-based company will use in the 2023 FIA
WEC season. The Italian driver completed the LMH’s
shakedown in the presence of CEO Benedetto Vigna. In the
afternoon, Pier Guidi handed over to Nicklas Nielsen, who
concluded the planned test programme. |
After the success of the inaugural National Ferrari Owners’ Day
at Sywell Aerodrome in 2021, the Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great
Britain returned to the same venue for the 2022 gathering on
Saturday 04 June. Whereas the 2020 event had enjoyed very
pleasant warm sunshine, this year’s one had a mixture of chill
wind, rain and then warm late afternoon sunshine, unfortunately
many had given up the ghost by the time the sun shone and had
made an early departure. Despite the unsettled weather there
were some 500 Ferraris in attendance through the course of
the day. |
The initial seeds of thought for a Concours on Savile Row were
first muted in 2019 for an event in 2020, but the pandemic put
paid to the idea in both that year and 2021. Thus 2022 saw the
inaugural Concours take place on the street that has been the
home of high end bespoke tailoring in London for well over 200
years, drawing an analogy with luxury and bespoke coachwork
on a number of the cars that were on display. The idea came
from Hothouse Media, the publishers of the renowned motoring
magazine Octane, in collaboration with the Pollen Estate of
which Savile Row is part, with assistance from the Westminster
City Council allowing the road to be closed for two days for the
event. |

Artillery Gardens of the Honourable Artillery Company’s
headquarters. |

together through a shared passion for the Automobile! |
In the morning, during the Automobilia sale, a helmet signed by
all the Tour Auto winners (lot 33) sold for €9,000. The entire
proceeds from the sale of this lot will go towards the construction
of a canteen and kitchen for the 200 children of the Bongela
School in South Africa. |
A well-deserved potential win for Miguel Molina and Antonio
Fuoco faded in the final seconds of an intense 6 Hours of
Monza, fourth round of the FIA World Endurance
Championship, forced to refuel with two laps left, in a race that
nonetheless saw the pair on the podium alongside team-mates
Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado, third at the finish and
new leaders in the standings. In the LMGTE Am class, historic
podium for Iron Dames Bovy-Gatting-Frey, the first in the world
championship for an all-female crew. |

RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to offer 718-006, one of the most
successful RSK Werks Spyders in Porsche racing history at
their flagship auction in Monterey. This 1959 Porsche 718 RSK
Werks Spyder famously won first in class at both the 1959 12
Hours of Sebring and first in class at the 1000 km of
Nürburgring, further cementing the RSK’s reputation as the
“Giant Killer.” Despite difficult conditions at Sebring, chassis
718-006 managed to finish first in class and third overall. Just
ten Werks 718 RSKs were ever produced, and the chance to
purchase one with such significant racing history as 718-006 is
unprecedented. |
Gooding & Company, today unveiled its entire catalogue for its
upcoming auction event this August, revealing its largest
selection of diverse and varied offerings ever presented at the
venue. Led by an incredible 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante,
the catalogue is filled with a plethora of historic cars from the
prewar period, as well as prized collectibles from the most
prestigious names in motoring. These offerings, alongside the
rest of the firm’s robust group of collector cars, will cross the
auction block on Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 in
Pebble Beach. |
RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to offer the “best Ferrari ever built” and
arguably one of the most significant Ferrari’s offered at auction,
the 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider by Scaglietti. RM
Sotheby’s is on course to host a record-breaking auction in
Monterey. The American sports car racing scene of the 1950s
was a time like no other, when fiercely independent,
deep-pocketed men could acquire ex-factory racecars and
campaign them with some of history’s most legendary drivers.
Admirably pure in its essence, this was a golden era of racing
that fielded some of the decade’s most beautifully sculpted and
ferociously specified competition machines. |
Charles Leclerc is back in the winner’s circle after the Austrian
Grand Prix at Spielberg, to give Scuderia Ferrari its fourth win of
the season, the second in a row, after Carlos Sainz finished on
the top step in Silverstone last Sunday. Unfortunately, today the
Spaniard had to stop with a power unit problem 15 laps from the
finish. A brilliant drive left him on the verge of passing Max
Verstappen to take second, to secure what would have been a
very well-deserved one-two. It was a good way to celebrate the
90th anniversary of the first appearance of the Prancing Horse
emblem on the Scuderia’s cars way back in 1932, with the
old-style badge displayed on both F1-75s here in Austria. |
The Ferrari 296 GT3 is an innovative project, on and off the track,
that the Prancing Horse manufacturer decided to develop to
continue a winning tradition dating back to 1949 when the 166
MM triumphed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This is a new
approach in terms of design, car management at all stages of a
race weekend, electronics, and even the engine architecture, a
120° turbocharged 6-cylinder. A new concept built to meet the
needs of teams, professional drivers and gentlemen drivers, on
whom Ferrari has always focused. This car has been
meticulously designed in every detail and from every angle, in
compliance with the new GT3 regulations. |
Ferrari continued to roll in GT World Challenge America Am class
competition Sunday at Watkins Glen International, closing out
the weekend with another victory and also scoring fourth in the
Pro-Am category after taking its 20th consecutive Am category
victory on Saturday. Represented in this case by only the Triarsi
team after AF Corse withdrew their effort from the weekend
following an incident earlier in the season, the team nevertheless
further added to the Prancing Horse’s winning record. |
At the end of an intense and thrilling 24 Hours of
Spa-Francorchamps, the five Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020s
competing in the great Ardennes classic claimed two victories
and one podium place. The Maranello marque was the only one
to see all its cars cross the finish line in the GT World Challenge
Europe powered by AWS flagship race held in front of over 73,000
spectators. After celebrating Fuoco-Rigon-Serra’s third place in
the Pro class, the Belgian public applauded a first GT race win for
the Iron Dames Frey-Bovy-Gatting-Pin in the Gold Cup and
Bertolini-Machiels-Costantini-Rovera’s triumph in the Pro-Am. |
Global auction house Gooding & Company will return to the
Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace to conduct its
London Auction on 3 September 2022. As the official auction
partner for the weekend, the leading firm has brought together an
exceptional assortment of the world’s foremost classic cars,
including some from the most important names and eras in the
development of motor sports history as it is known today. This
exceptional grouping features highly significant, historic
examples from the greatest automotive marques in Europe and
the UK. |
It has been 4 years that we went to Le Mans for the Classic
edition of the 24 hours. After the cancellation of the 2020 event,
we had to wait 2 more years to celebrate the 10th edition of
this unique race event. 20 years after the first edition in 2002
the Classic has become the biggest premium race event for
classic cars in the world going all the way around the clock in 6
different race classes. With 4 more support races before the
actual 24 hours and 3 races per grid this sums up to 22 races
in addition to the qualifying and practice sessions starting
Friday. A whopping number of more than 1000 drivers and
about 750 race cars in the entry lists attracted more than
200.000 visitors |
After a successful gathering at the venue in 2021, the Ferrari
Owners’ Club returned to Rushton Hall Hotel & Spa, a 16th
century Grade I listed country house, near Kettering in
Northamptonshire, for their Summer Garden Party on Sunday 07
August, which was preceded by the Charles Stanley Concours
on the Saturday. A new feature of the concours this year was
that all entrants had to complete a circa 15 mile drive-in on the
Saturday morning, to prove that their cars were fully functional,
road legal and being driven. |
Over the last two years a lot of events were cancelled and they
had to find a way to keep their sponsors and getting set up the
event this year. Some of them struggled more than others but the
Classic Days even had more challenges to master as they lost
their original event location, the Castle Dyck near Neuss. For
many years the picturesque water castle was a perfect backdrop
for the German garden party with the Orangery for the concours,
an alley for a recognizable round course and the gardens for the
camping and pick-nick. When we went to the first Classic Days
the garden were just refurbished for the Bundesgartenschau but
the castle was still in a sorry state. |
The Monterey Car week is back. After missing the last years car
week due to the travel restrictions coming into the USA and the
cancellation of the 2020 week due to the outbreak of the Covid
virus we are finally back to Monterey after three years. Some
things have changed since the 2019 edition and some stayed the
same. One of the biggest changes is the lack of the
Concours on the Avenue on Tuesday in downtown Carmel
as the founder unfortunately passed away recently and it looks
like nobody took over the baton. The Wednesday will also see
some news as the McCall Jet Center party was sold to the
automotive lifestyle brand and specialty insurance provider
Hagerty who already took over the Amelia Island Concours earlier
this year. |
The Monterey Car Week officially started with the opening of the
major auction house previews. Every year the big auction
companies have their flagship sale during car week and the
turnover is a good part of the yearly revenue. And every year
people enter the auction previews and wonder who will buy all
these cars and whether the market can take this number of cars.
And every year one is surprised about the amount of money that
changed hands at the end of the week and experts comment how
they saw this coming no matter what the result is. |
Finally, we had a first glimpse at the Concours d´Elegance cars
this morning at the Tour d´Elegance. As the cars were intended
to start at 9pm, the first cars were lined up way before sunrise;
as early as 6am the first spots in group 1 were taken.
Traditionally led by the cars from the Mercedes Museum, being a
sponsor, the tour is divided in two groups that are released with
about a gap of 15 minutes. This ensures that the cars of the first
group can be parked at the turning point at Big Sur before the
next group arrives. |
The weekend has finally arrived and the car week goes into its
final days. After the Jet Center Party on Wednesday, it was time
for the second big social event that takes the concept of the party
to another level. Over the last years the Quail Motorsport
Gathering developed into THE social event of the week, with
astronomic ticket prices that give one access to the best food
and drinks in the atmosphere of an exclusive garden party,
surrounded by the good things in life. |
A unique Duesenberg reprised its early role as Concours winner
by taking the top prize at the Pebble Beach Concours
d’Elegance. This year, 40 classic cars from 18 countries and 33
states pulled onto the competition field of the Pebble Beach
Concours d’Elegance, and the car named Best of Show was the
1932 Duesenberg J Figoni Sports Torpedo of Lee R. Anderson Sr. |
The final Ferrari 250 Europa GT topped the Bonhams silver
anniversary Quail Auction on Friday (August 19), selling for
more than $2 million. The 25th edition of the auction house’s
Monterey Week sale achieved over $30 million and sell-through
rate of 90%, with several seven-figure collector cars successfully
crossing the block. The 1955 250 Europa GT Coupé, the very
last example of the landmark model regarded as the first of the
iconic Ferrari GTs, achieved $2,095,000. Styled and built by
Pininfarina, this car was first exhibited at the 1956 Brussels
Motor Show and raced in period at Spa Francorchamps. |
RM Sotheby’s flagship auction grossed an astonishing
$239,258,340 in total sales this past weekend over the
company’s record-breaking three-night auction in Monterey,
California, with an incredible 95 percent of all lots sold. Presided
by Sotheby’s auctioneer Oliver Barker and RM Sotheby’s Mike
Shackleton, the auctioneers stayed extremely busy fielding bids
night after night in a jam-packed sales room which saw a record
number of bidders and enthusiasts in attendance. |
Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the Pebble
Beach Concours d’Elegance®, this weekend concluded its 18th
annual Pebble Beach Auctions, achieving a total figure of
$109,452,370. On Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20,
the globally renowned firm sold 28 cars for figures well over
$1,000,000, and set five new world records at auction. Throughout
the weekend, 135 of 158 lots were sold, culminating in an 85%
sales rate and an average price of $810,758 per lot. |

Palace, resulted in the sale of 31 out of 39 lots, achieving a 79%
sell-through rate. Seven cars brought in figures over the £1 million
mark, and the average price per lot was £735,869. |
After years of anticipation by the international automotive
fraternity, Ferrari today unveiled the Purosangue, the first ever
four-door, four-seater car in the Prancing Horse’s 75-year history,
in the magnificently atmospheric surroundings of the Teatro del
Silenzio in Lajatico (Pisa). |
Felipe Fraga’s twelfth place and Nick Cassidy’s retirement wrap
up a weekend devoid of satisfaction for the AF Corse Red Bull
Alphatauri Ferraris. After an overnight BoP change, the two 488
GT3 Evo 2020s were forced to head off from mid-pack, with Fraga
and Cassidy starting 16th and 19th respectively. |
Two Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020s finished in the top ten in the
first DTM race, held at the Belgian Spa-Francorchamps circuit
in changeable weather conditions. At the chequered flag, after
twenty-three adrenaline-packed laps, Felipe Fraga in the AF
Corse Red Bull AlphaTauri car came seventh, while teammate
Nick Cassidy crossed the line in tenth. |
Mixed feelings for Scuderia Ferrari come the end of the French
Grand Prix. On the one hand, Carlos Sainz put on a great
show, moving through the field from 19th to fifth, but on the
other, Charles Leclerc retired while leading and looking on
course to secure his fourth win of the season, when he crashed
at turn 11 on lap 18. |
The 2022 edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by
Mastercard filled four days between 23-26 June with high octane,
together with high voltage, action in the grounds of Goodwood
House. The theme for this edition was “The Innovators
Masterminds of Motosport”, with anniversaries of the first twin
cam engine, 1912, the first superchargers, 1922, the first centre
seat single seater, 1932, and the first F1 monocoque chassis in
1962. |
The second edition of the British Motor Show sponsored by cinch
at the Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre,
situated on the south-east perimeter of Farnborough Airport in
Hampshire, some 35 miles south-west of London, was held
between 18-21 August. Following a successful inaugural show in
2021, the 2022 edition was expanded, including a hall dedicated
to electric vehicles sponsored by elmo, plus the Bridgestone Hall,
primarily for modified cars, to provide an even greater variety of
displays and activities for attendees. |
Scuderia Ferrari leaves Budapest disappointed with having
been unable to convert Saturday’s performance into success in
the race. The F1-75 did not react well to the cooler conditions
and lower grip levels which impacted on the drivers’ race pace. |
The seventh running of Festival Italia, at the Brands Hatch circuit
in Kent, was held on Sunday 14 August. The very hot weather
attracted large crowds to enjoy the racing and displays in
glorious sunshine. The on-track action comprised of a five race
programme, two each for Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic cars and
the Hitek Alfa Romeo Championship and one for the HRDC
Classic Alfa Challenge series, together with the respective
practice and qualifying sessions. |
Scuderia Ferrari came away from the Belgian Grand Prix with a
third place courtesy of a combative Carlos Sainz and a sixth
from Charles Leclerc. This was Sainz’s seventh podium of the
season and today’s points see the team still second in the
Constructors’ championship. Charles had some bad luck,
having to pit in the very first laps when a visor tear-off got
caught in the right front brake duct on his F1-75, which was
causing the brakes to overheat. |
An intense four hours of racing in Barcelona ended with the
table-topping Proton Competition crew prevailing, the latest win
allowing them to edge further away at the top of the general
standings. The no. 77 Porsche staged a comeback, eventually
moving into first place in the latter part of the race, crossing the
finish line with a moderate margin over the first of the Ferrari 488
GTEs on track, the Spirit of Race-run no. 55 with David Perel,
Duncan Cameron and Matthew Griffin, who now occupy second
spot in the general standings some 27 points shy of the top. |

2000’s. Organized by Peter Auto since 2010, it is being held on

France. Finally returning this year, it took place on the last
weekend of August, bringing together more than 330 historic
race cars in nine different categories. More than 15,000 visitors
could enjoy exciting races during a sunny weekend. |
Owing to its high-alpine “Top of the World” location, St. Moritz is
globally appreciated as the repeated host of the Olympic Winter

genuine melting pot of cosmopolitan elegance and regional
charm. |
The 17th edition of the Salon Privé Concours d’Elegance
presented by Aviva was held between 31 August and 01
September, taking place at its regular venue of the majestic
Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. It actually started
with a pre-concours scenic tour for participants on Tuesday 30
August, which saw attendees assemble in the Great Court, in
either their concours car or another suitable classic or sporting
vehicle for the touring rally. |
Three days isn’t enough! The Goodwood Revival Meeting, held
between 16-18 September, has such a broad spectrum of
activities that it is virtually impossible to experience all aspects
within the three days of the event. Apart from a fifteen race
programme, there are celebration parades on the track, together
with a whole host of peripheral activities and entertainment, such
that one is constantly spoiled for choice and at the same time
torn between where you want to be. |
The BMW M Hybrid V8 has arrived in North America and was
presented to the public in its racing colours for the first time at a
launch event at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles (USA). The

colours when it competes in the GTP class of the IMSA
WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2023. |
It caused a sensation when it was revealed in June 1987, and 35
years on the Ferrari F40 is still a spectacular example of the

weighty large format book, 30cms x 30cms, provides an
expansive and detailed history of the model through its 240 pages
and some 400 images. |
The Ferrari 488 GT3 claimed its five-hundredth victory, a
milestone that will go down in the annals of the Maranello
marque. This historic event was celebrated at the Spielberg
circuit in Austria, where Nick Cassidy won DTM Race-1 on
Saturday, 24 September, a now unforgettable date for the
Prancing Horse. On the same day, in the GT World Challenge
Asia, Takeshi Kimura and Kei Cozzolino toasted their conquest
of the drivers’ laurels in the overall and Pro-Am classes of the
Japan Cup. This brought the tally of titles featuring the same car
to one hundred and ten. |
Nick Cassidy climbed the top step of the podium in Race-1 at the
Red Bull Ring in the penultimate round of the DTM championship.
Setting off from pole in his number 37 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020
of Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse, the New Zealander led for the
entire fifty-five minutes. Teammate Felipe Fraga was unlucky,
forced to retire after two laps following a collision that led to a
puncture. This was Cassidy’s second career victory in the
German series, giving the 488 GT3 (in all its versions) its
five-hundredth win. It was also the second in succession after his
triumph a fortnight ago at Spa-Francorchamps. |
In the Pro category, series debutants Alessandro Balzan and
Manny Franco took second after finishing in fourth in
Saturday’s races. Balzan captured the pole for Conquest
Racing on Sunday and led the first half of the race in the No. 34
Corsa Horizon Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020. After the pit stop
exchange, Franco rejoined the event fifth overall, made three
passes down the stretch to take second overall despite being
pressured by another competitor all the way to the checkered
flag. |
After its win in the FIA WEC a few months ago, the 488 GTE’s

Iron Lynx finished first and second in the 4 Hours of
Spa-Francorchamps, the penultimate event on the 2022 calendar. |
Today concludes the fifth edition of the Ferrari Cavalcade

to progress both in terms of spectator attendance and the
richness of the cars entered for the different concours. |

celebration of the 75th anniversary of Ferrari, with a display in the
main atrium area, plus further examples on various dealer stands. |
For those who haven’t read previous articles on the Museu do
Caramulo, perhaps a brief resume of its history is in order. It is

Jeronimo Lacerda established a tuberculosis sanatorium in the
location. |

which runs until mid February 2023. |

World Endurance Championship from 1982 and the new complex
fuel consumption rules, Porsche sees the opportunity to build an
innovative racing car: Looking back, the Porsche 956, a "race car

499P is the name of the new Le Mans Hypercar with which
Ferrari will tackle the FIA WEC World Endurance Championship
in the elite class from 2023, a name evoking the history of the
Prancing Horse manufacturer. In the past, prototypes were
identified by the letter ‘P’, frequently preceded by the number of
the engine’s unitary displacement. The 499P is no exception. The
car is an outcome of a vision proudly rooted in the past, that gave
rise to the legend of today, enabling the company to achieve 22
world titles and 9 overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. |

indication of market movement and prices being achieved. |

house was lit-up to provide a splendid backdrop to the cars on
display outside the main auction pavilion. The auction comprised
of 54 lots, all but four of which were for cars. A number of the
offerings were from The Gran Turismo Collection, which apart

Peter Falk very much prefers to stand behind his team rather
than in the spotlight. The former racing director and engineer who
worked for Porsche AG for more than 30 years is said to be
extremely modest. In his own words: “I’ve always said that I don’t
count at all but my team has to be good. And that’s the most
important thing.” |

second consecutive FIA World Endurance Championship title.
The result came at the end of the 8 Hours of Bahrain, won by
teammates Miguel Molina and Antonio Fuoco at the wheel of the
number 52 Ferrari of AF Corse. The Prancing Horse thus ended
the final World Endurance Championship season for the LMGTE
Pro class cars on a high note. The Maranello company won four
constructors’ titles (2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022) with the 488

sixteenth World Endurance Championship title. It was sealed in

represented by no fewer than 13 of its classic and historic
models at Bonhams debut Milano Sale on Friday 18 November,

Before writing a new chapter with the 500 kW (680 PS) hybrid
prototype, Porsche can paint a positive picture of its ten-year
campaign with the 911 RSR. Over the last decade, the most
powerful racing boxer from the development centre in Weissach
has left an indelible mark in the notoriously competitive GTE-Pro
class. In the 2013 season, Porsche AG acquired 51 percent of
the Manthey operations team. The experienced squad from
Germany’s Eifel region was then entrusted with running the
factory engagement in the FIA World Endurance Championship
WEC. This new constellation immediately brought success, with
class victory at the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours. |
The Lancaster Insurance Classic Car Show was held at
Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre between 11 – 13
November. The official attendance figure was just under 70,000
over the three days of the show. The show occupied Halls 1 to

areas there some 3000 vehicles and around 300 one marque or
model clubs, collectively spanning virtually the whole history of
motoring in a multitude of forms. Add in numerous classic
vendor stands, trade stands of every description, an expansive
Silverstone Auctions auction, a large autojumble area and not
forgetting the Sporting Bears Motor Club, who offer rides in
sporting and classic cars to raise funds for charity. |
The first striking detail of the Porsche 911 Dakar is its ground
clearance, which is 50 millimetres higher than that of a 911
Carrera with sports suspension. And the standard lift system can
raise the front and rear ends an additional 30 millimetres. Its
ground clearance and ramp angle rival those of conventional
SUVs. The lift system is not only used to slowly cross obstacles,
but is an integral part of the retuned chassis. The ‘high level’
setting is available for ambitious off-road adventures at speeds of
up to 170 km/h. Above that speed, the car automatically lowers
back down to its normal level. |
