When looking into the classic car calendar the May is usually
packed with many events, with only 4 weekends available lots of

avoid a clash with the Historic GP, so the MM and the Villa
d´Este were held the same weekend. Less flexible is the annual
Gaisbergrennen in Salzburg (Austria) as it is bound to the Corpus
Christi holiday as this is the only day in this time of the year
where the organizers get permission to close the main road
around the dome place for the city grand prix. |

in the world and just like the Monaco GP or the Indy 500 the 24h
became more important than their race series they are
associated with. Winning one of these three races gives the
drivers a certain entry in the list of the true greats. |

He drove 27 of them for Scuderia Ferrari from 1967 to ’69, taking
three pole positions in the 312 F1. |
Almost six weeks ago Goodwood was again the epicenter for fast
and loud road and race cars of the past and present at the 24th
Festival of Speed. What sounds like an eternity ago in the time of
online media once was a normal delay for an extensive coverage
of an event like this in print media and although many pictures
and words spread the net for this year’s FoS in the past weeks
we still want to have a look back at one of the most important
dates of the year. |
The glittering comeback is now following one of the most
spectacular classic-car discoveries of recent times. The BMW
507 was driven by US musician Elvis Presley, famous already at
that time as the “King of Rock’n’Roll”, while he was doing his
military service in Germany. After that it disappeared for nearly 50
years and was believed to have been lost before returning to the
limelight. After almost two years of exacting restoration work,
BMW Group Classic is presenting the roadster for the first time in
a public arena. Restored to its original condition, it will be
exhibited on 21 August 2016 at the Concours d’Elegance in
Pebble Beach, California. |

Ten years ago the picturesque water castle of Schloss Dyck
served as a superb background for the Classic Days for the first
time. Over the next decade the event, traditionally held on the
first weekend of August, could establish itself as the biggest
classic car meeting on the European mainland. In unique
atmosphere an international FIVA-A Concours, the demonstration
runs on a closed off round course plus many smaller themed
displays attract classic car fans from near and far, 2016 again
more than 40,000 visitors with about 7,500 classic cars made the
nearby fields the biggest outdoor exhibition. |
Every August the classic car world is looking to Monterey for the
biggest ongoing car festival in the world. With the Monterey Car
week just around the corner the first cars arrived to Laguna Seca
a week early for the annual Pre-Reunion. Although the car week
is mostly known for the numerous Concours events and the
headline auction of the various houses the racing activities are
very well presented with the Rolex Motorsport Reunion. |
This year’s Monterey Car Week officially started this morning
with the gathering of the Quail Rally cars in front of the Quail
Lodge. As in previous years Sir Michael Kadoorie invited a few of
his close friends to start the week with a relaxed driving tour into
the Monterey hinterland. Again almost 3 dozen cars ranging from
a pre-war Rolls Royce to the newest Bentley were lined up at the
lawn for a group photo before leaving to the exclusive tour that will
arrive tomorrow evening at the McCall Jet Center party. |
Today the international auction houses opened their display for
the upcoming sales in Monterey. Both Gooding & Company and

the year, more than ever multimillion dollar lots will be for sale
this weekend, not to mention the 8-figures head liners of the
sales. Gooding & Company has several very interesting Ferraris
on sale with a Competition 250 GT LWB California Spider and
two 250 SWBs. |
Not few think that the Tour d´Elegance of the Concours is the
highlight of the week when the cars could be seen in their natural
habit, on the street. Once invented to proof that the cars can
actually drive further than from the trailer to the show field and
maybe once over the ramp the tour not only gives those not
fortunate enough to get on the field on Sunday the opportunity to
see a good portion of the cars but also for all cameras a
memorable image in front of the Pacific. As mentioned several
time during the last days the Tour had to be redesigned after the
horrible forest fires down highway one towards Big Sur. |

am many people were waiting at the dawn patrol to see the fleet
of cars coming onto the lawn. |

Goodwood Revival Sale (10 September), selling for £4,593,500,
creating a world record for a Porsche 550 model. James Knight,

A magical step back in time! This was always the slogan of the
Goodwood Revival Meeting in September recreating an
atmosphere of the past both on and off the track, but never was
the time as precise as this year: 1966. |
Mark Osborne, Vice President Motor Cars USA, said, ”The 1956
Porsche 550 RS Spyder offered is so original, that you could
travel back in time 60 years and find it in much the same
condition. It’s exactly how a 550 would have looked, smelt and
felt like when James Dean famously purchased his example back
in 1955.” Dean’s was perhaps the most famous of the 550s; he
called his example the ‘Little Bastard’. |

Ironically, just as we have been talking about early Trans-Am, I
just heard from Ron Grable via Rick Mandelson that Tony
passed. He and Bob Tullius won the first Trans-Am in the Group
44 Dodge Dart, and Tony A-Z had a remarkable career. The
Can-Am, Trans-Am, F5000, and IMSA racer from New York had
been suffering from Grade 4 Glioblastoma – brain cancer – that
was diagnosed last year. |

within walking distance of the historic centre, and is still the site
on which Ferruccio Lamborghini established the original factory in
1963. |

During a special celebration held at the National Art Center in
Tokyo to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ferrari in Japan,
Ferrari revealed a new strictly limited series of bespoke cars, the
J50. The Ferrari J50 is a two-seater, mid-rear-engined roadster
that marks a return to the targa body style evocative of several
well-loved Ferrari road cars of the 1970s and 1980s. Created by
Ferrari’s Special Projects department and designed by the Ferrari
Styling Centre team in Maranello, just 10 examples of the J50 will
be built and, in the spirit of Ferrari’s fuori serie tradition, each one
will be tailored specifically to the customer’s requirements. |
